Anyone who knows me or reads my blog with any regularity will know that, much as I am extremely proud of my body & what it has achieved in the last 6 years, my biggest issue is with my tummy. Not so much the stretch marks or wrinkled skin, I can cope with those, nobody has to see them. I can even cope with the "section apron" which is basically where my tummy rather attractively hangs over my section scar. No my issue is more the fact that despite losing a couple of stone in the last 18 months I still look pregnant. Face on or from behind I don't look too bad, I am getting slimmer but my tummy has retained a very pregnant shape which, until very recently, hasn't really gone down at all. I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked if I'm having another baby. Wearing anything other than leggings or a dress is hard - things like jeans or skirts with proper waistbands don't fit around my misshapen middle. Even just the other week Dave took a photo which happened to catch me side on & I was horrified and of course if you saw the photos the other week when I tried on my wedding dress you will have seen it for yourself.
Anyway I'd been chatting to a very lovely lady at my Slimming World class about my tummy issues a couple of weeks ago and we got to talking about different exercises. She mentioned doing leg raises. Just out of interest I decided to try & do some the other night whislt we were putting the kids to bed . . . I couldn't lift my feet off the floor . . . I couldn't actually feel my muscles to tell them what to do . . . I might as we have been dead inside. As predicted my core is absolutely shot to bits and may as well be made of feathers and candyfloss! Ben thought this was all very amusing and set about showing me that he could lift his feet from the floor right over his head. Show off.
The upshot of this is that I know I need to do some work on strengthening my abdominal muscles. However I also know that I need to be very careful about how I go about this as I know I could really hurt myself if I do this wrong - particularly as my back often seems to compensate for my weak tummy and I definitely don't need to add a bad back into the mix. This tummy of mine will only go so far with weight loss. It doesn't need to be flat, I don't want a six pack. I just don't want to look pregnant any more.
Anyway I've been pretty good this week (aside from Tuesday when the effects of "Star Week" hit hard and I couldn't stop eating!) Dave & I were meant to be having a meal out on Friday night which was cancelled unfortunately, we were gutted but I guess the silver lining is that a Thorntons ice-cream could never do as much damage to my waistline as a three course meal & cocktail.
So hurrah that 1lb off gets me back to my lowest and means the loss I WILL achieve this coming week will see me in credit and back in the game. The month of messing about with the same pound or so is done, all our birthdays etc are out of the way and there's nothing stopping me getting my head down and pushing the numbers on the scales in the right direction. I want another half stone off before I have a day's shopping with Kirsty in about three weeks time.
After class on Saturday I enjoyed a much needed girlie day out with Mich and whilst we did enjoy a hot chocolate and cake late morning followed by tea out including cocktail, burgers and chocolate sundaes we also did a lot of walking....

Although I didn't buy anything I took the opportunity to try on all sorts of different things in different shops & different sizes. As I wear a lot of jersey tops & leggings my weight loss hasn't been so obvious in my clothes - its not like trousers have been falling down or shirts hanging off me. It was really interesting to discover that I've dropped around 1.5 dress sizes and was managing to put on 16s in what I would class as much less generously sized shops (Warehouse, Oasis, French Connection) - that's not to say they fitted but they really weren't far off. I have several special events in July for which I need new outfits so I'm hopeful I should have a much wider choice of dresses!
