Twenty Months Old – Amy Watch

You might have noticed that there was no Amy Watch last month, I decided to drop down to bi-monthly updates now as she’s getting older.  I felt that I was repeating myself a bit though I must admit I missed writing an update for my little lady last month!

So here we are – Amy is 20 months old today and I can hardly believe it.

Aunty Custard often describes Amy as being like a little cartoon character and I can totally see where she’s coming from.  Bo almost always has a cheeky smile on her face and she just seems to get cuter by the day.  People are always telling me what a happy, smiley little girl she is.

The words are coming thick and fast now – my favourite being “Coo” which means “Thank you”.  You can’t fail to smile when your 20 month old toddler says “Coo Mummy” without prompting!!  She is able to say such a lot now and is able to make herself understood for the most part, you do need to be “tuned in” to her though.  We’re noticing more and more that she’s starting to string words together like “Night, night Daddy”.  She spends lots of time shouting for “Co-wee” and “Ben-ee”, she absolutely adores her older siblings.  They make her laugh, they look after her if they think she’s sad and they try hard to involve her in their games (even if Amy doesn’t understand she’s supposed to be playing the role of a princess or superhero).

For the most part her daytime sleep still takes place first thing in the morning after the school run.  If we’re busy she might stay awake however just last week we kept her awake till lunch time for one reason or another and she nodded off on the sofa as Dave was making her lunch.  She really struggles to keep going all morning!  I’m intending to try and move her sleep to after lunch during the course of the holidays and into September when we’ll have more flexibility during our days.

As the weather is improving I’m encouraging more and more time out of the pushchair.  She enjoys a good walk and if we have time it can be a real pleasure to toddle along to school together.  If she’s in the mood she can just about manage the walk there and back (just over half a mile) but obviously if the weather is bad or there’s any sort of time constraints she’s back in the pushchair.  Amy is quite enthralled by Ben and Chloe’s scooters and likes to try and scoot around the driveway on Chloe’s – I’m genuinely impressed at how good she’s getting already!

Although she’s still very much Mummy’s girl we do seem to have passed the worst of the separation anxiety.  She was fine whilst I was away at Britmums last month and even had her first sleepover at Nana’s house.  All this means that Daddy and I can start to plan in some more time together!!  She was super excited to go to Granny and Grandad’s house at the weekend and as soon as we got there she just wandered around the house shouting “Grandad” – he was in the pub so she didn’t get to see him till the following morning but he got such a greeting!  She’s going to love spending so much time with them when we’re on holiday next month.

Amy’s favourite toys are dolls and she can often be seen pushing or carrying a “baby” around the house.  She likes to watch a bit of TV and gets particularly excited when the Twirlywoos are on screen!

We celebrated Grandad’s 60th Birthday this weekend and she has been singing strains of Happy Birthday to herself for days – super cute and good practice for her big brother and sister’s birthdays later this month!  Every now and again we hear familiar little tunes within her babbles – Twinkle Twinkle and so forth.

And of course the final note in these updates always has to go to her hair!!  She just gets blonder and blonder.  As you can see from the pictures she’s getting better at leaving her hair tied up now thank goodness.  This weekend Aunty Nic gave her fringe a good trim and took the ends off the back to start to straighten it out a bit and give her a bit of a a tidier style!  She has quite some pony tail for 20 months old!
