Me & Mine – November 2017

I can’t tell you how last minute this month’s photo is . . . that fact that there is only one photo proves the point!  We basically piled on the stairs right before bedtime to take a cheeky selfie.

It’s so hard to find time to take photos at this time of year, at least time during daylight!  It’s dark by the time Dave gets home from work, in fact it’s not far off getting dark by the time we’re home from school.  And then during the week we have activities on almost every night, swimming three nights a week, dance lessons, Beavers, Cubs . . . it’s never ending.

Me & Mine – June 2017

I mentioned at the start of my May Me & Mine post that life was crazy busy.  I have to say it hasn’t calmed down any.  The kids are hurtling towards the end of the school year faster than I want to even think about.  Amy is going to visit her Nursery teacher for the first time next week and though she’s excited about it I know she’s going to be really sad to leave her playschool.  The big two have birthdays coming up in the next few weeks and we have so many adventures planned in that I don’t know how we’ll squeeze the normal day to day stuff in around them!

Another month has slipped by and we’ve only managed a couple of family photos this month – one taken by a passerby at Center Parcs who saw us struggling to take a selfie and other as we were heading out on a bike ride.  I fully planned to get the tripod out and take a proper set of photos – but the end of the month snuck up on me in a fairly typical fashion!

Me & Mine – May 2017

Life is busy right now.  Crazy busy.  Dave is training for a 70 mile bike ride in a few weeks, I’ve been working on some big freelance contracts as well as trying to fit in a couple of days teaching each week.  The kids were more than ready for half term by the end of last week and we were all looking forward to some adventures together!

Me & Mine – April 2017

You would think that after a week’s holiday in the woods together that I’d have a whole array of family snaps to share this month wouldn’t you?  You’d be wrong.  I have hundreds and hundreds of photos of our trip but nothing of all of us together well except for this one we took just as we were setting off and one with Boss Ben at the end of the week!

I had fully intended to take some proper photos this weekend – to take the tripod to my Mum and Dad’s and get some pictures in the back garden or maybe even the rape seed field down the road but no, for one reason or another I failed!  So for April, I will leave you with this picture of us all proudly sitting in our new tent which Dave & I had just pitched for the first time before the kids played in it for the rest of the day!

Next month I promise to take some proper photos and not just embed from instagram! Whoops.

Me & Mine – March 2017

I’m a little late with this month’s Me & Mine – mainly because I had planned to take some photos at my parents’ house over my birthday weekend but didn’t get round to it then with a crazy busy week work-wise it was suddenly the end of the month and I had no post written!  Whoops.

Luckily, whilst I was getting ready to film a vlog a couple of weeks ago, we all pilled in front of the camera and took a few selfies which pretty much sum up the silliness and noise that is our household at present . . .

Every time I look at this set of photos I’m struck by how many people there are.  I know that sounds a bit ridiculous really but honestly, look how big our family looks – both in number and physical size!  You’d be amazed how often people ask us if we’re going to have any more children, as though once you’ve broken the “norm” of two, you might as well keep going.  But no.  Three is most definitely our number.

We’ve had some lovely quality time together through March celebrating my birthday and Mother’s Day and we’re really looking forward to our first trip of the year next week – keep an eye on our social media channels to see what we get up to, it’s not our usual kind of trip!!

Me & Mine – February 2017

Ordinary Moments - half term, family on tram

It’s fairly common for the end of the month to sneak up on me when it comes to getting my Me & Mine photographs taken but never more so than in February when the month is actually shorter anyway!

As a result, I don’t have lovely new photos to show you but one you’ve most probably already seen.

Ordinary Moments - half term, family on tram

This is the only photo of the five of us this month and was taken on our half term adventure into Manchester together.  After a long January hibernating at home, February appears to have rushed past in a blur.  We’ve woken up again.  The year has begun in earnest.  Our diaries are packed once more and we have lots to look forward to.  I’m so excited for the longer days and better weather that March will bring.  So much opportunity for adventure together.

Me & Mine – January 2017

Me & Mine January

Whoo check me out, two Me & Mine posts in a row . . . it’s a good start!

January, whilst quiet in many ways has also been mad busy for us.  Dave and I have taken advantage of the rubbish weather and lack of plans to really make some headway again in our house.  What this has meant is that there has been little in the way of adventure, or even really proper quality family time.  The kids have spent a lot of time playing together or watching tv / playing on their tablets.  And if I’m honest I don’t think this is a bad thing.  Obviously we don’t spend all weekend, ever weekend with our kids plonked in front of our screen – that’s clear to see however they’re still shattered from the festive period and the short, dark days of January are taking their toll so a few lazy weekends has suited them well.  Amy and Dave have been going swimming to catch up on her missed lessons from last term and we’ve had a nice lunch out together but mainly it has been about getting stuff done – clearing things out and doing those jobs which we never get round to doing.

At the moment, Amy is proving to be a bit of a monkey and testing her boundaries.  She’s also something of a Mummy’s girl.  Frankly this has always been the case to some extent but she’s particularly vocal about demonstrating her favouritism at the moment and it’s wearing – for me when she just wants me to be the one who helps her with whatever she needs, sits with her, puts her to bed but also wearing for Dave who obviously knows she loves him but she is quite clear that she’d rather choose me at the moment.  We know it will pass but it’s still hard in that moment.  My good friend Jenny explained it especially well when she said that all kids will go through phases of favouring one parent over another and for whatever reason I’m the one who is able to meet Amy’s needs better at the moment, in the same way that as an adult you will gravitate to a certain friend at certain times.

I think the downside of so much time spent at home is that there is more opportunity for bickering – for the kids to annoy each other or for Dave & I to get irritated with them for not doing as their told.  Cabin Fever is real people.  That said, they’ve been pretty patient whilst we’ve been busy.  I think they understand that sometimes jobs just have to be done and that it’s for everyone’s benefit in the end!

I hope that in February we will be able to reap the rewards of all the time we’ve been spending on the house and that it will bring with it more family time and more adventure!  But for now, our January Me & Mine was snapped in our bedroom one Sunday morning when I’d been vlogging and decided to take advantage of the fact the tripod was still set up!

Me & Mine – December 2016

Me & Mine - December 2016

It’s quite some time since I attempted, and quickly failed, to join in with the Me & Mine Family Portrait Project.  For some reason, getting a family photo has always been so much harder than my monthly Siblings images but I’ve decided to give it another go!  It probably would have made sense to just start in the new year and join in with January’s posts but as we had taken a set of photos this week that I wanted to share, here we are!

I recently invested in a new tripod which we took up to Heaton Park for a play – until now we’ve always just found places to precariously balance my camera.  I did feel a bit silly posing in front of the tripod in public but you know what, if it means we get some decent photos of us all together each month then so be it!  We set the timer and Dave did the mad dash back before the photo was taken – perhaps we need to invest in a new remote for the camera before the next lot of photos!  I can’t decide if some of the images are slightly out of focus or if my eyes are just really very tired but either way . . . this is us, at the end of 2016, together.
