Chemist Direct are an online pharmacy offering prescriptions and discount or bulk, branded toiletries and medicines. Until recently I hadn’t heard of Chemist Direct myself. I tend to buy my toiletries in Boots or the supermarket, basically just keeping an eye out for offers and multi-buying or stacking up loyalty points.
I found the Chemist Direct website tricky to navigate, perhaps in part because I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for. It doesn’t really seem to be designed for browsing, more for just searching for specific products. The products which are in stock change regularly.
I noticed there were lots of promotions on suncream so decided that would be a good place to start with a holiday coming up and the threat of some warmer weather on the horizon.

Putting the order through wasn’t too complicated and I quickly got an email to confirm my order. There was no indication as to how long my order would take to arrive, just a message at the bottom of the confirmation email to say that they were working to get it to me as quickly as possible. After two weeks of radio silence and with no sign of my order, I decided to log onto the website to find out what had happened. My order status was “processing” so I decided to contact Chemist Direct using the form on the website. A few days later I got an apologetic email to say that my order hadn’t been dispatched due to a system issue and they would get it out to me that same day. The order eventually arrived three weeks after I first placed it which I’m afraid is completely unacceptable to me – particularly as there was no mention of this potential delay at the time of order. I expect orders placed online to arrive within a couple of days otherwise it completely negates the convenience of online shopping doesn’t it? If I’d known from the outset it was going to take so long or someone had been in touch to apologise I might have felt differently but to hear nothing until I chased it myself two weeks later is just a really poor level of customer service.
Aside from the issues with delivery the order arrived intact, well packaged and with nothing missing. (I didn’t manage to grab any photos as everything was quickly put to use!)
Whilst the order as a whole represented reasonably good value, I’m confident I could have picked up the suncream in particular at similar prices in the supermarket as there are lots of promotions around at the moment. It certainly wasn’t bargain enough to make up for the lengthy delivery times.
Since placing my order I’ve had almost daily emails of different promotions from the Chemist Direct website, which perhaps I wouldn’t have minded so much if I had felt the service were up to scratch but in reality they’ve just been irritating.
Essentially, whilst I did get some good deals they really weren’t good enough to encourage me to shop with Chemist Direct again. Next time I need some toothpaste or suncream you’ll find me in the supermarket.
