Years ago I went on an Early Years training course and one phrase stuck with me:
How many times do we say “No, we can’t go outside today, it’s raining?” Kids don’t care! In fact if they’re anything like mine they actually enjoy it! (Though nothing was going to make the school run ok last Friday in a complete and utter downpour – my coat was still wet when I went back out again at lunchtime!)

Chloe is completely obsessed with her wellies and would rather wear them instead of her shoes most of the time! She actually has three pairs at the moment – one to wear and two to grow into! (I guess I might be to blame for that though . . . )
She loves wading through puddles and having a good splash about and who can blame her!
If they’re properly dressed for it kids really just don’t mind going out in a bit of drizzle – there’s just different things to explore for like at lunch time today I was showing Chloe that we could see the raindrops falling in the puddles even though she didn’t think it was actually raining.

Both children have waterproof bib & braces from Muddy Puddles which are great for keeping dry on the school run, protecting their clothes when they’re gardening or having a play about on the beach on a not so warm day!
I could do with something similar myself at the moment the way the weather is carrying on! Ben and Chloe are both well equipped for the weather but the most I can muster is my wellies and a shower proof jacket. I was looking on at people on the school run wearing their waterproof trousers this morning and feeling jealous. Yes jealous. What on earth has happened to me?
I know they’d both love an umbrella each too but I just fear them either turning into weapons or just annoying the hell out of me on the walk to school when they don’t hold them up properly so we shall stick to hats and hoods!
What do your children wear when the heavens open? Are you as badly equipped as me? Next Winter I’m getting a proper coat and some waterproof trousers lack my Granddad used to wear!
