A recent national government survey revealed British children are missing out on 90% of the recommended weekly intake of oily fish and as a result many could be lacking vital nutrients known to pay a key role in almost every part of our body.
I hold my hands up that my children are definitely in that category. I hate fish . . . fish fingers are fine, a bit of tinned tuna or a tuna steak but beyond that I can’t bear fish and so don’t eat it. Subsequently this means it is rarely served up for dinner in our house. Fish finger butties are about as good as it gets.
So when I was offered the opportunity to tray out Equazen eye q fish oil supplements I was more than happy to give them a go. We were sent the strawberry flavour chews which are suitable for children aged 3+. Ben and Chloe have tried various chewable multi vitamins in the past and have always been happy to take them so Ben didn’t take any convincing to give these a go.
I think you can see from the pictures that he quickly went from excited to try them to realising that actually they just taste horrible. Having tried them myself before I gave them to him I knew he wasn’t going to like them. When you first put them into your mouth they are fine but as you bite into them they just burst with this horrible flavour. I have to admit I’d be hard pushed to take another one myself never mind convince the kids to take them on a regular basis!
What I would say is that they do taste considerably better than the liquid cod liver oil my Grandad used to try and give me but that’s a small saving grace! I guess fish oil products are never likely to taste great but I definitely wouldn’t expect Ben and Chloe to take these.
