Exploring Great Britain with Virgin Trains

*This is a commissioned post for Virgin Trains*

What have you got planned for this kids?  At the moment our diary is looking decidedly plan-free which is unusual for us.  I’m considering booking some train tickets and taking the kids on an adventure.  Train travel was always so exciting when I was little (and if I’m honest, at the ripe old age of 37½ I still love travelling by train!)

Last October half term I took all three children to London on my own for the day – admittedly we were attending an event rather than being tourists but it was so exciting for them to be on the train and visiting our capital city.  I had planned to take them for a family day out this year but we’ve not managed it so far – perhaps that’s what I should do this holidays – I know they’d all be really excited to see Buckingham Palace!

Or Nic and I have talked about taking the kids up to Scotland for a few days – she visits quite a lot with work and we’d both love to take them to Edinburgh Zoo.  Dave and I went when I was pregnant with Ben and we were having our last child-free weekend away but we haven’t been back since.  I remember finding it all terribly hard work at about 34 weeks pregnant but the chance to see hippos is always too exciting to miss!

I’m not sure that Ben’s self-professed new-found love of shopping would stretch to a day in the Bullring much as I know I would love it myself!  A shopping trip to Birmingham is probably one to do with Dave.  (Though perhaps not at the end of November like we did last year – that was crazy busy!!)

Or perhaps we’d go a bit off-piste and take Amy to see the concrete cows in Milton Keynes!  (Regular readers will know that Amy is a bit obsessed with cows, particularly watching them being milked!)

I love a day out by train, it’s so nice not to have the stress of finding car parks etc. I definitely want to take my family to Scotland at some point and even more now to see hippos!
