Chloe had a really good week last week for a number of reasons and I wanted to just take the time to document these:
On Friday Chloe was chosen for a special mention in assembly – she was so flipping chuffed with herself and it was very cute. I’m immensely grateful that my working arrangements allowed me to be there to see her standing there beaming at everyone while they were told that she was getting her sticker for “Trying so hard in her sound work and looking everywhere to spot the sound of the week”. This didn’t surprise me one bit as she’s absolutely obsessed with spotting letters everywhere we go – particularly s and o (which were the two letters she had been given to hold up in her assembly). We had a go at playing Alphabet Lotto with her tonight for the first time too and she did really well with it – she was so excited to spot the letters and match them to the pictures.
Also on Friday both Ben and Amy received new toys which we had been sent to review – Ben was super excited about his new Hot Wheels Track and couldn’t wait to open it (which unfortunately got him into trouble later in the day but hat’s a story for another post). I was really impressed that despite Ben and Amy both having exciting new toys, not once did Chloe comment that she hadn’t got anything. She never questioned why they had got new toys and she hadn’t, never questioned if she might get a new toy soon. She just enjoyed their excitement and played with them. I’m so proud of her for that. So proud that there was no sense of entitlement there. That she didn’t even think about herself and that maybe she should have had a new toy as well! I must admit it made me want to rush out and treat her to something to balance it all out but there will be plenty of times she gets an exciting new toy when the other two don’t and it’s a life lesson isn’t it I guess.
Finally we’ve had a wobbly few weeks with Chloe who has clearly been feeling a bit unsettled but we couldn’t put our finger on what was causing the problem. She’d had some sad afternoons with her childminder and had been a bit quiet at school which was making me really worried about her. In the end I concluded that she was tired and possibly a bit unwell and was definitely missing me. Thankfully last week this all seemed to subside and she had a great time with her childminder who said she was back to her usual self. Big sigh of relief all round.
How adorable is this piece of writing she brought home on Friday (which only served to cement in my mind that she had just been feeling unsettled)
