BEAR Paws Outdoors!

*This is a commissioned post for BEAR*

For the second year in a row, BEAR have teamed up with the Wildlife Trust with the aim of getting more “Paws Outdoors” this summer.  (We actually took part in this challenge last year too and made mudpies!)

If you’re not familiar with this project, basically BEAR Nibbles and The Wildlife Trusts have worked together to create a fun outdoor activity for every letter of the alphabet, popped them on a cute little card and hidden them inside multi-packs tasty of BEAR Paws.

The team over at BEAR sent Ben, Chloe and Amy a special package containing just about everything they needed to try out two of these activities. The aim of the activities are to get children to explore more of the outdoors, however some of them are perfectly doable indoors – so they’re great to do at any time of year!

Below are some of the activities that the cubs got up to!

L is for LEAF: Leaf Rubbing

Now first off, I’m going to hold my hands up and admit that we settled down to do this on a wet day, without having thought to collect any leaves before hand so rather than dragging soggy leaves in from the garden we used a collection of artificial leaves from my magical cupboard!

This task is an old favourite – collecting leaves, placing them under a sheet of paper and rubbing them with wax crayon to see the shape of the leaf appear as if by magic. Chloe loves colouring and drawing so this was the perfect activity for her, she spent ages choosing leaves, positioning them carefully under her paper and choosing her colours to create a work of art.

U is for UNDERGROUND: Making Fossils

This task involves pressing objects into play-doh to create fossils.  It was a simple task which Amy was able to manage but which also really interested Ben. As we didn’t have unlimited play-doh it was sometimes tricky to create a fossil of the full insect, but we discussed the fact that fossils are often only parts of a creature and it’s not like any insect lay down in the perfect position to be fossilised! Both Ben and Amy loved that they could bake their fossils to harden them and make them more realistic!

Of course, once you’ve finished your task, BEAR Paws make for the perfect fruity snack, made with 100% pure fruit, gently baked into tasty bite-sized paws with no added nonsense – and tasty too!

They’re available in four tasty recipes including Mango & Strawberry, Apple & Blackcurrant, Strawberry & Apple and Raspberry & Blueberry. #StayWild
