Castle Howard’s Christmas in Narnia event was a festive day out I’d had my eye on but, time wasn’t on our side this year and we weren’t able to go. My friend Kerry told me it was so magical that she had almost shed a tear and Sam from The Reluctant Explorers was in awe after her visit and offered to write a review for me to share with you!

Or to put it bluntly. ‘Wooooooooooah!’
Castle Howard’s Christmas in Narnia is quite frankly out of this world! The route around the stunning interiors of the palace have been decorated in the theme of C.S Lewis’ The Lion the Witch and Wardrobe, with installations inspired by the book’s central characters.
Following in the footsteps of the Pevensie children, your journey will take you from the traditional opulence of Professor Kirke’s house, through the enormous wardrobe door and into the magical land of Narnia.
The entire experience is set to a soundscape created by sound artist Karen Monid, and is lit so beautifully that you will well and truly be transported into another world!
Along the way, you’ll encounter Castle Howard’s enormous snow-covered glistening Christmas tree, (which is rumoured to be the largest real decorated interior tree in Europe – and who am I to argue with that, it’s bloomin’ HUGE!) an enchanted woodland feast, magical mermaids, the terrifying snow queen (definitely wouldn’t mess with her) a floating forest of rainbow Christmas trees, concluding with an immersive light and sound experience, which MIGHT feature the big man himself! (or might not, not giving anything away here….)
This remarkable event runs until the 2nd January 2022. Admission to the grounds of Castle Howard is included in the ticket, so make sure you go and check out the brilliant adventure playground, Skelf Island. And finally, the restaurant is serving some fabulously festive treats (I can heartily recommend the hot turkey sandwich!)
