Over the last couple of weeks my social media feeds have been flooded with sunshine from the likes of Sally, Jenny and Becky who have all been off sunning themselves in various glamorous sunshiny places around the world like Jamaica and posting photos like this:
Whilst I, on the other hand, have been getting soaked to the skin in a rainy miserable Manchester and posting images like this:
I have something of a love / hate relationship with the Autumn – in the first throes of the season when the skies are still blue, the air not too cold and the leaves are turning the trees into a riot of colour then there’s no denying it’s beauty. Â However by the time we reach mid November, when the trees are all but bare, the skies are grey and it feels like it hasn’t stopped raining for days then it hits me hard. Â I hate it. Â It makes me miserable. Â The only thing which stops me going into complete hibernation mode is the festive build up. Â Having something to look forward to makes it all the more bearable doesn’t it.
Of course once Christmas is over, then what? Â It’s still a long way till Summer isn’t it. Â Just recently Dave and I have been talking about our wedding anniversary and how it would be nice to make use of the fact we both have passports again now to get away for a cheeky weekend. Â We’ve spoken very nicely to Mum and Dad and they’ve agreed to have the kids however I think much as the idea of a weekend jaunt to the likes of Prague or Amsterdam, we’re more likely to stick to somewhere in the UK – Bath is currently featuring high on the wish list. Â (Unless of course we suddenly find that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and then I’m booking flights pronto!)
This year we took the kids abroad for the first time and enjoyed a lovely family holiday in France.  Seeing their confidence grow in the swimming pool, relishing in new experiences and just generally enjoying some beach time was such a treat for us all.  I’d like to think that holidaying abroad will become a more regular experience for us, that we could look to booking a foreign holiday each year as a matter of course but I know that travelling as a family of five can be complicated and expensive.  If I’m honest we should be prioritising getting the extension finished rather than planning beach holidays but it doesn’t stop me dreaming. . .
