As the kids get older, they are slowly starting to get braver and bolder with their food choices and as such we are always on the look out for new things to try that we can enjoy as a family. Germanto Gouda-style spicy cheese cubes are the latest addition to our fridge and I wanted to share how we’ve used them this weekend.

Germanato is a 100% natural cheese product made from fresh cow’s milk with no artificial colours or flavours and is suitable for vegetarians. It’s is a Gouda which has the texture of a “holey” cheese – making it perfect for snacking on or adding to a salad or main meal.

Germanto Gouda-style spicy cheese cubes are sold in ready to pour, 100g resealable packs making them quick and easy to use! You can pick Germanto up in Sainsburys as well as independent food shops and regional stores such as Budgens.

Adding Germanto to our tea!

Although Germanto is a great snacking cheese (as you’ll see in below), you can add it to your cooking too so we decided to try it our current family favourite: frittata!

Dave and I have only just recently introduced the kids to frittata and it was an instant hit. It’s a great way of using up bits and pieces in the fridge and the kids like to see what we’ve hidden in it this time! Normally Dave uses a standard cheddar which melts through the frittata giving it flavour but this time we added Germanto cubes. There’s no chopping or grating as the cubes are ready to pour straight from the pack (as someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy cooking, this is a win for me!).

At first Dave wasn’t sure about how the Germanto cubes would work in the frittata as when he removed it from the oven we thought they had melted a bit strangely – as it turns out they were a great addition as, whilst they had melted and softened, they had stayed in stretchy lumps giving you a bursts of cheesy flavour and texture through the frittata – I much preferred this to the more subtle flavour we usually get from grating in cheddar!

I’m going to try adding Germanto to my pasta next time, stirring it in with the sauce before serving!

Germanto Pizza Sticks – a quick and easy snack

When it comes to snacks for my three, it’s easy to offer them a piece of fruit or a packet of crisps, but sometimes you just want something a bit different don’t you? This weekend we use Germanto to make “Pizza Sticks” – an easy to make, easy to eat snack inspired by pizza with cheese, tomato and meats.

We picked up a platter of cured meats and some cherry tomatoes from the supermarket and some skewers. Once I’d made one “Pizza Stick” to show Ben, he was quite happy to carry on making them – we popped a piece of meat, a tomato and a Germanto cube onto each skewer and then served them as a super tasty snack.

(It’s worth mentioning that Germanto cubes are best ‘rested’ out of the fridge for a short time before eating, to allow the full flavour and exuberance of the cheese to develop so you’ll want think ahead and take it out of the fridge a little while before you make the skewers if you’re going to be eating them straight away!)

A quick and easy cheese!

Germanto has definitely proved itself to be a quick and easy to use cheese – the pick up and pour pack makes life easy and the resealable pack means it will stay fresh in your fridge ready for when you need it!

What would you use Germanto cheese cubes for?
