Healey Dell Nature Reserve near Rochdale is a beautiful area of woodland surrounding the River Spodden – the highlight for us being numerous waterfalls and a 100-foot high viaduct (Dave loves a good viaduct!). Healey Dell is a new discovery for us thanks to a recommendation from a work colleague and as such we haven’t fully explored it yet but the kids absolutely loved it thanks to plenty of opportunities to clamber up rocks, climb trees and the potential for splashing about in the river (it was too cold when we visited!).
Healey Dell is not a flat walk and is definitely not pushchair friendly (or at least not the section we walked!) – there’s lots of muddy, uneven footpaths, steps and slopes so could be quite slippy if it’s muddy or there’s lots of leaves under foot.
Healey Dell Heritage Centre & Tea Rooms is an Edwardian themed tea room serving traditional afternoon and cream teas amongst other freshly cooked home-style food and is highly rated on Tripadvisor – definitely somewhere we plan to visit at a later date!
Parking for Healey Dell Nature Reserve
We actually parked at Healey Dell Heritage Centre as that’s where google maps took us however parking here is quite limited and I’ve since found that it is suggested you park at Broadley Wood Lodge, off Station Road or at the Ranger Office, Healey Hall Mills, Dell Road, Shawclough, Rochdale.
