Earlier this month I was invited to attend an Italian Cooking Masterclass with Bookings for You and the Giovannini family from Tuscany. Cooking has never been my strong point and I’m lucky that this is an area where Dave happily, and skillfully, takes the reins. With this in mind I rather wished I’d taken Dave along to the Masterclass with me as I know he’d have loved every second of it!
The Giovannini family own the oldest pastry shop in Volterra – Dolceria del Corso along with an award winning catering company and stunning villa –  Country Relais & Spa Le Capanne which is available to rent. Husband and wife team – Giancarlo and Fabiola joined us with their son Dario and daughter in law, Vera to talk us through creating the most delicious, authentic Italian dinner. Vera explained, “It is important to us that when you visit us you get a real experience of what it is to be an Italian family“. Watching the family cook together and demonstrate their passion for Italian cooking (along with a great sense of humour) was a real privilege.

As I’ve mentioned, cooking really isn’t my strong point – I love food but take little to no enjoyment in the preparation of meals. Luckily for us, Giancarlo and Fabiola take great pleasure in taking simple, quality ingredients and turning them into delicious meals with minimal fuss. They were keen that the dishes they shared with us would be ones we would be able to recreate easily at home (though perhaps without the fresh Italian tomatoes . . .) – I’m sure Dave would be thrilled to find me knocking up a homemade pate or wild boar with olives – but I think we all know that’s not really going to happen. His best bet for experiencing this authentic Italian cuisine is a trip to Tuscany . . .

Since our brief trip to Venice back in November, Dave and I have both been itching to return to Italy to explore more – both on our own and as a family. Italy is a firm favourite for my parents – in fact they are planning a driving holiday later this year and I’m fully envious!
Bookings For You currently have more than 350 properties on their website across 8 regions of Italy (as well as a small portfolio of properties in Normandy, Provence and Nouvelle-Aquitaine) and with a focus on helping guests to find the perfect property, and therefore taking away the holiday-planning stress, I know they’re going to be top of my list when it comes to planning our future Italian adventures!
