Week 5. Over a month in Lockdown with the kids home from school. A month of not seeing anyone other than Dave, the kids and the people I work with. The longest month. And yet, at least another month to go.
I don’t really feel like I’ve got a lot to say about this week – I’ve looked back through my camera roll and there’s very little there.
Dave went into the office on Monday as is fairly routine for us now. I took the kids for a walk during Ben’s PE lesson – this is something we have done every Monday morning as I think an hour’s walk in the fresh air will do him more good than a video workout. I had been a bit bothered that he might be losing attendance marks for it but really, in the scheme of things it’s not the end of the world. As it was, his PE teacher actually called me while we were out on Monday to check that Ben had been able to access the online learning so I was able to explain that actually we were out for a walk with the dog and that we’d been doing that each week during his PE lesson. Thankfully his teacher was really pleased that we were doing that and just asked that we drop him an email each week to let him know what we are doing so that he doesn’t mark Ben as absent. I told him that Ben is doing weekly spinning classes too. Between taking that phone call, stopping to take photos of the highland cows and kestrel spotting, we didn’t actually cover much distance during our walk this week but at least it got us all out!

Tuesday wasn’t a great day – I’m not sure why but I seem to find Tuesdays especially hard. I had no patience for the kids and their home learning, struggled to get any work done (due to constant interruptions) and generally felt really fed up!

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday are of course my school days so beyond going to work and then coming home to help Amy with some reading and column addition (which she hadn’t done properly while I was at work) there was very little to report.
The weather forecast for Saturday wasn’t great but we decided to just get up and go out anyway – we dressed for the weather and reminded the kids that getting wet wasn’t the end of the world, we could just have warm showers and get tucked up in our pjs when we got home! We actually had a really nice walk around Ogden Reservoir despite the rain and mud.

It was Chloe’s turn to bake on Saturday so her and Dave made a Malteaser cake and then Chloe took half of it round to her best friend. She was absolutely gutted that Willow was in the middle of an online dance class when she got there though so she didn’t get to see her! I found Saturday afternoon really hard and basically spent the afternoon tucked up under a blanket on the sofa. I just didn’t have the motivation to do anything else.
The weather was much brighter on Sunday morning – super cold and frosty and perfect for a good walk so we decided to swerve church in favour of fresh air. We chose to repeat the walk we’d done the day before – but adding in an extra reservoir to get some more miles in. Ben picked up a lump of snow, named it Bill and carried it for 2 miles . . . don’t ask me why!

I wish I could tell you the weekend left me refreshed and ready to face the week ahead but, whilst there were some lovely moments and we really enjoyed our walks, I’m just sick of not being able to spend our weekends with friends and family.
