My Doodles Watch – Review

At almost 6, Ben is pretty confident at telling the time to the nearest quarter of an hour.  We’ve yet to move onto 5 minutes increments but I think being able to say “Nearly quarter to three” is pretty good for his age.  We’ve recently treated him to a clock for his bedroom in the home he might check the time before deciding to get out of bed at stupid o’clock in the morning.  (I can’t say it had worked today when I had to go and put him back in bed at 5.50am but that’s by the by)

Aunty Nic bought Ben a watch for his birthday last year and he loves it.  He isn’t allowed to wear it for school though after getting into trouble for messing about with it and he has an irritating tendency to fiddle with the pin on the side meaning his watch rarely actually says the correct time.  My main issue, however, with his current watch is that he insists on fastening it far too tight so that it digs in and leaves marks on his wrist – he won’t be told though!  With this in mind I was really interested in the concept of the new My Doodles snap on wristwatch.  By its very nature Ben wouldn’t be able to fasten this too tight!

The new My Doodles watches are available in a choice of four different designs, the Owl, the Alien, the Bee and the Penguin.  Had Ben not already got a green watch I would definitely have chosen him the Alien however in the interests of being different I went for the Penguin.  I’d have liked to have chosen the Bee for Chloe however I know given the choice the pink Owl would have won her heart so that’s what I went with.

My Doodles watches

As you can imagine I had two very excited children when this little parcel arrived!  They were both keen to put their watches on immediately.  To set the time on your new My Doodles watch you just need to pop the watch face out of it’s character and turn the pin as you would on any other watch.  The watch then pops back in easily and securely.  I must say I didn’t let Ben see me do this as I didn’t want him to know that the watch face came out as I know he’d mess with it and likely lose it.  Additionally I didn’t want him to know where the pin was hidden in the hope he might actually be able to leave his watch reading the correct time!

Ben is able to read the time easily on his new watch and of course they are both able to put them on / take them off easily.   (They were told in no uncertain terms not to mess with them though I must admit Chlo has found this too tempting so far!

What we love about them:

* The snap on strap is easy for them to put on independently and impossible to fasten too tight

* The characters and bright colours are appealing to little ones

* The watch face itself is protected by it rubberised setting

* Wearing a watch feels very grown up and encourages children to learn to tell the time

What we’re not so keen on:

* The face does come out relatively easily, Ben’s fell out when he fell over at the weekend

* They are very tempting to fiddle with so definitely not something we’d let Ben wear at school!
