I’m not a runner. I never have been. I don’t even run for a bus. I blame it on my asthma, on my enormous boobs, on my back but mostly on my massive lack of motivation to actually do it.
I look at little ones and think, “I wish the world was still so exciting that I felt like I needed to run everywhere” but it isn’t and I don’t – I walk and I really enjoy doing it (as long as there’s not too many hills!).

Dave has taken up running in the last year or so. He has been using an AI programme to plan out his runs and through last summer was really committed to it – running before work, in his lunch break or after work – whenever he could get the runs done.
I think having a programme that he had committed to really helped to motivate him to get on and tick the box, to stick to his new routine. But then the nights got darker, and Manchester got infinitely wetter, and his desire to pound the streets dwindled! As there is finally a hint of spring in the air, he’s lacing up his trainers and getting back outside!

Although Ben started cycling with Dave at 9, he was never really into sport at primary school but since discovering rugby at secondary school, he’s more active that I’ve ever known him. With rugby twice a week, boxing once a week, bouldering around once a fortnight and most recently he’s added running into the mix – he doesn’t love running but he knows it’s a good option for those weeks when rugby training is cancelled (which has been a lot recently thanks to water logged or frozen pitches) and sprint training is always going to help improve his game and make those tackles!
To keep everyone motivated, we’ve treated them to some new kit from adidas – specifically new running shoes for Ben and Dave as I’m super aware that running in the wrong sort of shoes will do them more harm than good! Dave is pretty heavy on running trainers so he’s almost always in the market for a new pair.

At the moment, they don’t really run together (which is probably a good thing when I’ve bought them completely matching kit!) – Ben prefers to go out on his own and run at his own pace with his headphones in but I know Dave is keen that they do some more runs together – having someone else there can be a real motivation and stave off the boredom.
