The Extension – Update 6 (Lots of progress)

Last Updated on 13 January 2025 by Colette

So here is part six of my picture updates and this one will actually bring things up to “real time” updates!

August and September were pretty quiet on the extension front – mainly because we really struggled to find ourselves a reliable plumber (if you’re in the states check: https://www.mrrooter.ca/mississauga/) and electrician.  We had been let down a few times and of course anyone who came recommended was already booked up.  This meant the build well and truly stalled until we found someone who had time to come and do the jobs.

Things seemed to jump on all of a sudden once first fix electrics were done and a new boiler fitted.  Not least because I went to London for the day thinking Dad was going to be supervising the plumber and fitting some garage doors and came home to find that he had indeed knocked through upstairs and there as a massive hole in the side of my house.  I can’t tell you how exciting that was!

Since then Dad and Dave spent last weekend plaster boarding upstairs so it is now ready to be plastered.

It’s quite hard to get good photos at the moment but you should get a bit of an idea from these . . .

Helping Grandad with the plasterboard:

This is the view across the old landing into the new part of the house:

Chloe’s new bedroom to the left, shower room straight ahead and Ben’s new room to the right

In Ben’s bedroom:

New loft space! Hurrah for accessible storage!

The end of the project is now so close, in fact Dad says there is around two week’s work left in the job however we know it will take a while longer than that as it has to be fitted in around his other jobs which need to take priority.

Regardless it’s very exciting to see things moving forward and I can’t wait to get some sort of order back into our house!
