We recently stayed in a Willerby Malton holiday home at Wild Rose Holiday Park in the Lake District.
The Willerby Malton sleeps six with one double and two twin rooms plus a bathroom with toilet and shower and then a separate toilet (which is always a bonus if there’s a few of you!). With central heating throughout, the Willerby Malton is super cosy too.
I was really surprised by how spacious the bathroom felt – believe me I’ve been in some tight holiday home bathrooms before now but this one felt absolutely fine. The shower was wide but narrow so it didn’t feel like there was much space to move around – I was glad I was just having a quick rinse and not washing my hair. The water was nice and hot and the shower plenty powerful enough.
The bedrooms are pretty tight with not much space to move around the room but you’re only sleeping in them so I tend to think it doesn’t matter. Dave and I just found that we could only have one of us up and about in the room at a time otherwise it was just too tight – so I’d get dressed while he was in the shower, or I’d make sure I was in bed before he came into the room. The beds are smaller than a standard single / double but I think this is pretty common in a holiday home – what it does mean is that Dave at 6ft 5 most definitely had his feet hanging off the bed and we found the bed a little snug as a couple when we are used to a king size bed at home! Whilst the beds are small, they are comfortable with a nice thick duvet and good pillows.
For us, the real highlight of the Malton is the living area which feels light, bright and spacious – Ben quickly picked his favourite spot: feet up on the footstool and looking out through the sliding doors at the view!
The kitchen had everything we needed – cooker, toaster, kettle, microwave and fridge freezer – we had stocked up on groceries for our trip so they went straight into the fridge and freezer on arrival. We had a cheeky microwave curry for tea on Friday night – nice and quick after the two hour drive from Manchester – and plenty of snacks and picnic bits.
The dining table seats four – which is fine as it just meant we got the kids to eat their tea at the table and Dave and I sat and at our tea on our laps. Had the table seated six, it would have just taken up too much space unnecessarily I think.
The sofas were comfortable and easily sat the five of us, we could have used the footstool if we’d needed to seat a sixth person but Ben was more than happy to keep his feet up on there as much as possible over the weekend. The TV was nice and big, and kept Amy entertained during the time the WiFi was down but otherwise we didn’t really use.
The private decking area was perfect for being able to let Poppy outside in the fresh air. I’d have loved to have been able to sit out and there and eat my breakfast but sadly, this is the Lake District in April not the South of France so the weather wasn’t on my side!
All in we were really impressed with the Willerby Malton holiday home and wouldn’t hesitate to book one again either at Wild Rose Holiday Park or at any number of holiday parks across the UK.
