What floats your boat?!

Advertorial content

I was asked the question what I thought was the best way to travel the UK waterways and with living close to the Rochdale Canal I immediately pictured a beautiful narrow boat!  All Rosie and Jim style!

I’ve always quite liked the idea of a holiday on a narrow boat and this little fantasy grew ten fold over the time we lived in Todmorden in West Yorkshire, we lived near some beautiful stretches of canal with fantastic locks (my favourite being the one pictured) and really enjoyed watching the narrow boats pass by.  It looks like such a relaxing way to spend your time, mooring up and exploring, stopping for lunch – and whilst I know the navigating the locks would be hard work it looks so exciting too!  Imagine how much fun the children would have.  I’ve never actually been inside one though so perhaps it would all feel a bit squashed.

That said I’m always drawn to the sea as well so could definitely enjoy a bit of child free luxury on a massive yacht . . . I can dream right?  When we were in Filey last month Mum and I enjoyed watching all the sailing boats out on the horizon, the looked gorgeous.  I’m not sure I could actually manage to sail something like that myself though – too much effort!

What about you?  What floats your boat?  How would you like to travel the UK waterways?

  1. I had a really relaxing 4 days on a narrowboat near Market Harborough…other than attempting to turn around in a space that was obviously too small and steering the boat into a bridge it was really good fun!
