With the cost of living impacting every area of our lives, many of us are looking for more cost effective ways of getting away on holiday without breaking the bank.
As a family of five, hotel rooms can be pretty expensive – it’s been a long time since we’ve all been able to squeeze into a family room and so we automatically have to pay double for any hotel stay. Glamping pods, tree houses, luxury safari tents and even house boats can offer sleeping accommodation for larger families – glamping opportunities come in all shapes and sizes and Unique hideaways have got them covered!

Whilst camping is probably the best budget holiday for the whole family, I totally understand that the tent life isn’t for everyone so I wanted to share why glamping might be the perfect alternative this summer!
You don’t have to invest in a whole load of kit
I think one of the things that can be most off putting about going camping is the amount of kit that is required. Don’t get me wrong, it’s perfectly possible to go camping with a bivvy bag in your backpack and very little else but that isn’t the kind of camping life that I’m signed up for – and definitely not with the kids! Before we started camping as a family, I was worried about how much we would have to spend on camping gear to find that we maybe didn’t like it. Glamping is the perfect way to get a taste for that outdoor life without having to buy and pack up loads of kit.
There’s no setting up
Don’t get me wrong, I love camping and I love our tent (especially since we’ve invested in a new air tent) but there’s a lot of faff sorting everything out, packing up the car and then setting up camp – and just as much faffing putting it all away again. Once you’ve picked yourself the perfect family glamping site, you can just turn up and switch off – enjoying the great outdoors without any of the hassle that comes with camping (and to be honest I think that might be the best reason there is to go glamping with kids this summer!)

The outdoor life
One of the things my kids love most about going camping is the freedom that comes with that – there is no pressure on them to get anything done or to be anywhere, and they get far more freedom to go off and explore the countryside around them than they would if we were home in a built-up suburb of Manchester. For Dave and I, camping comes with a side order of enforced relaxation – there’s no jobs to do, no stress and quite often very little internet access. Making a brew on the camping stove takes longer than it does at home, but who cares, it becomes a ritual. Evenings spent chatting around the fire pit, toasting marshmallows are bliss. Going glamping with the kids means you get a taste of this super chilled pace of life without any of the faff.
Camping with added luxury
If you choose the right glamping site, you’ll find yourself with many of the luxuries you’d expect from a fancy hotel room – a proper queen size bed, a private bathroom and maybe even a hot tub (if I’m honest, glamping options with hot tubs would be pretty high up on my wish list when it came to choosing the best place to go glamping whether that was as a couple or with children!) Of course you’re going to pay more for these luxuries and more affordable glamping will see you sharing a bathroom with other campers!

It’s more environmentally friendly
Whilst glamping in the UK isn’t going to guarantee you some sun, you never know, you might strike lucky. We had an absolutely glorious week in Norfolk last summer and you could have easily fooled us into thinking we were abroad! What glamping in the UK could offer you though is a more cost-effective, environmentally friendly way of holidaying this summer – with no flights and no ferries. In fact, glamping is a great option for going camping without a car at all – there are plenty of UK glamping sites that are accessible by public transport!

So, have I convinced you? Will you be booking a glamping holiday in the UK this summer, or have you already tried it?
