I know I’m not the only one. I’m not the only one feeling more than a little grumpy. I can’t put my finger on it. I don’t know quite what the cause is. Perhaps it’s the fact my house is still a mess with Christmas decorations. Perhaps I’m just tired after a busy week of entertaining and festivities. Perhaps its just the post Christmas blues. After all the stress, excitement and build up, it’s all over and the days after Christmas always tend to feel a bit of an anti-climax.
I was chatting with Dave earlier and we were reminiscing about the days when Christmas being over was fine because Christmas being over meant New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve meant a good day or two of partying. The days between Christmas and New Year were full of plans and excitement, shopping for outfits, making arrangements for lifts, club tickets, places to stay.
New Year’s Eve as a parent is a very different kettle of fish. Â New Year’s Eve as a parent generally means a night in. Â We’ve had some lovely nights in – an impressive beef wellington and posh chocolates with my parents when Ben was tiny was a favourite, and we’ve had some fab New Year’s Day outings when Mum and Dad have babysat and we’ve traipsed off to Leeds to celebrate our lovely Kirsty’s birthday. Â However this year we have no plans at all, to the point that I couldn’t confidently tell you what day of this week New Year’s Eve is without checking first. Â
Are you suffering from the post Christmas blues?! Â Perhaps we need something to look forward to? Â I think a good walk and some healthy food might be a good start!Â

You are not alone! I feel the same! I love December and the run up to Christmas but once Boxing day is over I feel glum ad I don't know why either? Maybe it is because the shops have their sales on and I see things I paid full price for reduced to half price or less, or the holiday adverts are on tv, or I am sick of seeing party food, or the food shops are open but have bare shelves or there is nothing in there I fancy eating, or the dull and cold days???? I used to keep my decorations up until 12th night but now I take them down on New Year's Day because I just want to dust and start the new year with a clean house. Christmas lasted so much longer when I was little – I just think it is too comercialised now and people cannot wait for it to be over so they can shop the sales. So I join you in the Christmas Grump brigade! LOL Roll on the new year and the Spring!
I think I might have to treat myself to a nice bunch of tulips and pretend spring is already here 😉 x
You're definitely not alone, my hubby gets terrible post Christmas blues and as we had no plans for NYE we were both feeling a bit fed up. On a bit of a whim we've booked afternoon panto tickets for the day followed by a very early tea in Manchester so we have a nice day to look forward to. And the healthy new lifestyle starts on the 2nd Jan! xx
Oh that sounds like a lovely idea! We should have planned something nice to do for New Year, it just never even occurred to me!
I'm feeling fine tbh, we had a really lovely Christmas and I am now looking forward to the Xmas tree being down, the decorations away and getting back to normal. I have a lot planned for January so that may be it! x
I can't wait to get the tree down & get my house back!
