Amy’s bedroom makeover – the before!

As you know Amy has recently, finally, moved into her very own bedroom.  Ben and Chloe have moved into their new rooms in the extension and Amy has moved into their old room.  Her room is the second largest bedroom in the house – it’s a fairly decent sized double so she has plenty of room!  The plan is that we will use it as a guest room when people come to visit and Amy will have sleepovers in Chloe’s room so Chlo has the bunk beds at the moment.  This will be a great relief to anyone who has stayed at our house in the past as whilst our sofas have had a reputation for being very comfy for sleeping on (I say had as they’ve now seen better days), the downside to sofa-sleeping is being woken by three little ones – Grandad, Aunty Custard, Goose and Aunty Nic have all perfected pretending to be asleep but the kids can only be quiet for so long bless them!  

Amy’s room is, unintentionally, the most decorated room in our house.  When we first moved in we used it as a study – huge desk, lots of bookshelves – I loved it.  It was somewhere I could spread out and do all my school work in peace.  This didn’t last long as Ben was born only just over a year after we moved in so it was quickly redecorated as a Nursery.  

We redecorated again when Chloe moved in and they started to share the room and really we had planned to leave it for a while now – we liked the bright spots and it really isn’t that long since it was decorated however Ben and Chloe had, rather unhelpfully, ripped a good chunk of the wall paper around the window so things were looking a little scruffy.  When we were offered the chance to review a Wallsauce mural it was too good an opportunity to miss. 

So I did a quick video to show what the room looked like before – I apologise that it’s a bit wobbly! 

Dave has since spent the last week or so stripping the walls and preparing them to be re-papered.  In an ideal world we’d get the walls skimmed but the plaster isn’t too bad really so for now we just keep using liner paper and painting over it again!  It has taken quite a while too do as he has only had a short time of an evening from getting home after work to Amy going to bed but by the middle of the week he had started to paper the walls.  He spent all day yesterday papering, caulking and such like and today was ready to put up the new Wallsauce mural.  (He had planned to paint the room first however the instructions which came with the mural said it needed a good few weeks for the paint to settle before the mural could be applied and we didn’t have a good few weeks – deadline looming and all that – so the rest of the room will need to be painted later.
