And just like that, we’re all back to normal. Dave’s 5.30am alarm was a harsh reality this morning – I woke with a start, momentarily fighting through a fog of panic – what the hell is this noise attacking my sleep addled brain? Ah yep, quick dig in the ribs for the husband and back to sleep for me thanks very much!
My own, somewhat less aggressive alarm, went off at half 7 and I lay there for a few moments (yeah ok, more like ten minutes) listening to the sounds of silence in the house and wishing I didn’t have to wake all three of my sleeping babies. Why do they always sleep in on the days you have to get up? In the end Ben and Amy woke up themselves, Chlo was something more of a challenge and it took a good five minutes or so to get her out of bed! Ben wasn’t at all impressed when he realised that it was actually a school day and he complained “But I just don’t like learning!” – with hindsight it may have been a little harsh to point out to him that he has another 12 years of school and then he’ll have to go to work . . .
Thankfully, despite the somewhat lethargic start, we all got ready to leave the house without too much fuss and were able to set off early enough to allow Amy the opportunity to walk to school rather than be bundled into the pushchair.
Our Monday routine is a little different for the New Year as we’ve moved Amy’s swimming lesson to a Monday morning. I must admit that having a commitment which meant we had to get on and leave the house was probably a good thing today as it would have been easy to potter around cleaning and watching TV. What we actually did was get out to her swimming lesson and then pop to the Trafford Centre to return a few bits and pieces. I was even able to keep her awake in the car on the way home so she could still have a proper sleep before we picked the big two up from school.
Ben and Chloe have both had great days at school, Chloe’s teacher made a point of telling me that she had done some really good writing this morning which obviously made me smile! We even made it home from school before it properly rained – which I’m calling a win, although the kids were more than happy to have an excuse to use their new umbrellas!
So that’s it. We did it. We got back to normal and we survived. How was your first day back?
A doesn't go back until tomorrow. Dreading it! x
All will be fine. You'll miss her but I'll be you also breathe a sigh of relief for the normality x
We've not yet started the routine yet, with a toddler it's slightly different anyway. But we have a few more days left on holiday before we return to the monotony of home life again! arrrgghhh. x
Yes I know what you mean. Now that I have two in full time school it makes quite a difference to me when term time starts again! I also found when they were younger that lots of the grousp and things we went to didn't run in the hols so they could get quite long!
