Last New Year’s Eve we went for a good old stomp around Heaton Park with the kids. It’s one of our favourite places and no matter the season we always come home feeling we’ve had a good adventure. I’d been keeping an eye on the weather forecast all week and was hopeful that we’d be able to put in a repeat performance today.
Having spent the last two days washing, cleaning, ironing and clearing stuff out to the tip – Dave and I agreed that today we wouldn’t do any “jobs” at all. We would spend the day with the kids getting out of the house, having a New Year’s Eve party lunch and watching a film.
Thankfully the weather has been reasonable kind. When I say “kind” I mean that the rain held off till we got back home again. There was a little sunshine when we left the house but this soon gave way to clouds and it was definitely colder than we had anticipated meaning our adventure was probably a little shorter than we would have liked however it got us out into the fresh air and racked up some “active minutes” on my Fitbit!
So here’s to a new New Year’s Eve tradition – Heaton Park, a nice lunch and a film seems to be the way forward! We shall be doing our New Year celebrating tomorrow. Whilst the children have a day with Granny and Grandad I shall be drinking gin with my best friend to celebrate her birthday. I’d call that a winner.
Happy New Year and much love to you all. We’ll see you on the other side!

What a wonderful tradition and so lucky with the weather. I must say it has been horrid with us this holiday but like you the rain has held off at crucial times. It looks like a lovely blast of fresh air at Heaton Park and a great way to get those fit bit steps going. I love your last photo all together, a great one to look back on. Happy New Year and thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids
A bit of a blast of fresh air is always welcome at this time of year. This is a great idea as a new tradition. Visiting from #countrykids
Sounds like a good tradition. Glad you were able to enjoy the overcast weather. My kiddo and I love going on rainy and muddy walks.
Sounds like a wonderful tradition and what gorgeous pictures! Happy new year xx
That sounds like a really great walk and a fabulous family tradition. The kids love really cute in their beanies. Angela
Great photos! New traditions like this are wonderful for spending family time together. Before you know it your children would have grown up and you have all these brilliant photos to look back on.
Those are gorgeous photos. And I love the sound of this tradition. It is so good to get out and about during the Christmas break. And it looks like you had a lovely time at Heaton Park. It is so nice to be able to have these lovely family traditions that you look forward to each year. Happy New Year. And I hope you enjoyed your day with your friend drinking gin. Hugs Lucy xxxx
Lovely to see a family tradition including all members of the family. Fabulous photos and I am glad to hear that the rain held off for you all. Happy New Year x x x
We seem to have spent a lot of Christmas indoors so we are heading out in a minute for a long woodland walk too.
I love the pic of the three little ones under the tunnel of trees! x
I love this! And those photos are gorgeous.
We went on a trip to the farm for New Years Eve just gone and I think I'd like to do that every year now. 🙂

such a great tradition to start, we didn't get out much due to various sicknesses and then crappy weather! lovely photos too x
That sounds like a lovely way to spend the day, always great to get outside in the winter. Lovely to see your dog joining in with the fun too, mine are never far away when something fun is happening either 😉
A great and fresh new tradition. I need to get out more. We haven't been to the park in months. It's actually sad.
Even the shortest adventures hold the best memories. Lovely photos too.
Ah our weather was rubbish, we just went with it though and popped out wellies on and went stomping in the puddles! It looks like you had some lovely time together, lovely photos too.
Some gorgeous photos in there! The weather was poop but its always nice to pop the wellies on and get some fresh air isn't it. Looks like you had a lovely time no matter what.
I like nothing more than getting outside but the weather really has been against us recently hasn't it. Looks like you made the most of a brighter spell – lovely pics
I love it when new little traditions just crop up and start, that's the best way for them to start. We started Breakfast at our Beachhut on Boxing Day a few years back and didn't realise it for a couple years and now it's tradition rain or shine!! Weather has been so unpredictable so I'm glad you got some time free of the rain! X
Love the hats, and pics of the kids acting silly. It's so nice to get out and about, but it does feel like a lot of effort sometimes. Happy new year
What a lovely tradition – I love the photo of all three of them walking away from you. And the silly faces!
I hope the gin went down nicely as well 😉 x
I love New year's traditions – Our is the now famous New Year's Day walk. How cute are those little pink noses and ruddy cheeks – sign of healthy children outdoors. x
What a perfect tradition and gorgeous photos. I still can't believe we've never been to Heaton Park and we aren't toooo far away! x
What lovely photos! Sounds like a fab tradition to me. Happy new year xx
Lovely photo's. Sounds like the perfect tradition for seeing in the new year and the promise of gin the next day .. even better 😉 xx
Happy New Year! That's a lovely family tradition for all of you ? Fab photos.x
Your beautiful pictures tell the story!!! This is the perfect tradition, thanks for sharing
Nothing better than going for a good walk to blow away the cobwebs! I normally head to Southwold, but the weather has been so rubbish I haven't fancied it yet. Even the prospect of a nice hot chocolate and a bag of chips hasn't tempted me! Happy New Year to you all xxx
Ahh I love family traditions, and family walks for that matter, fresh air does everyone the world of good! Love the picture of the littles being goofy and silly, as much as we all love a perfect posed photo, I prefer the ones that are a little more natural 🙂 x
Lovely fresh air! Happy New Year to you all. Hope you have a lovely year.
Also the photos are fab
