One of the first things we do when we’re looking to book a family holiday is to check where the nearest water park is! Whilst we have a great theme park or two in the UK, I think we’re really lacking in good water parks and so, since our trip to Siam Park a few years ago, we’ve come to realise that a day out at a decent water park is something we like to try and fit into our holiday where possible. (That said, last time we booked a trip to France we chose our campsite based on proximity to a water park that didn’t open till two weeks after we’d gone home – so don’t forget to check opening times, especially if you’re not travelling in peak summer season!)

Siam Waterpark – Tenerife
Siam Park, Tenerife is widely regarded as one of the best waterparks in Europe if not the world. In fact Siam Park is consistently named the world’s best water park by Tripadvisor and as such it seems only right that they get the first mention on this list!
Dave visited Siam Park quite a few years ago now on a stag do – the destination for the stag do had been entirely planned around Siam Park and it’s reputation for being the the best water park in the world. Packed with exhilarating rides for all ages (including the 28m tall Tower of Power for adrenaline junkies and a fantastic pirate ship themed play area for younger kids) as well as the best wave pool I’ve ever seen, Siam Park is one of the largest water parks in Europe and is not to be missed on your next Europe Tour!

AquaShow Water Park – Portugal
AquaShow Water Park, Portugal is the biggest waterpark in Portugal and has a four star rating on Tripadvisor. The Aqua Show water park is open from the start of May to the end of September.
There are quite a lot of smaller waterparks in Portugal, many within easy driving distance of our villa in Carveoiro but when we were looking for a water park in Portugal, we decided it was worth driving that little bit further to Quarteira for the biggest and best park we could find! AquaShow Water Park was the perfect place to spend a day enjoying the various water slides for a fun-filled day with all the family.

Drop-In Argeles – France
This is one for the thrill seekers – Drop-In is a really different sort of waterpark featuring straight drop slides and water jumps and it had been sitting on our wish list ever since we saw Sally & Flea visit a few years back. By chance we booked our May half term trip to France within reasonable driving distance and couldn’t wait to try Drop-In for ourselves!
Drop-In has a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor and is a great place to go with older children and teens (though there are plenty of reviews suggesting younger children will enjoy it too!). From our own experience I would suggest the more confident a swimmer you are, the more you are going to enjoy your time at this particular water park. If you want to leave a water park battered and bruised this is definitely the place for you!

Aqualand Maspalomas – Gran Canaria
Aqualand Water Park, Gran Canaria is one of the largest waterparks in Europe and offers rides of varying sizes for the whole family. Aqualand has a 3.5 star rating on Tripadvisor and is open all year round (though expect reduced or seasonal opening times).

Aquafan – near Rimini, Italy
Aquafan Water Park, Italy is an extremely popular waterpark divided into four areas to suit families, those looking for water games, thrills or perhaps even a day of relaxation. Aquafan has a 4 star rating on Tripadvisor and is open until early September (check the website for confirmation!)
It strikes me as the sort of water park I’m going to want to go to without the kids to be able to make the most of it!

Aquadome at Lalandia – Billund, Denmark
Get ready to experience a Nordic adventure. Aquadome at Lalandia is Scandinavia’s biggest water park and features family-friendly slides such as Twister and Octopus as well as brand new attractions: the lightning-fast Turbo Racer water slide and the wild Adventure Tower climbing tower. Aquadome includes wellness experiences and relaxation for both children and adult with fun water slides, a wave pool and hot jacuzzis.
Tropical Islands Amazonia – Brandenburg, Germany
Open all year round, Amazonia is around an hour’s drive from Berlin and boasts 35,000 square metres of swimming pools, water attractions, sports and sunbathing opportunities for the whole family. The Whitewater River – a 250 metre long wild water channel – is a particular highlight and don’t miss the 27 metre high waterslide tower!
Aquaworld – Budapest, Hungary
Aquaworld is one of the biggest indoor water theme parks in Europe and is part of the four-star Aquaworld Resort which is well rated on Tripadvisor. It is located in northern Budapest and showcases a contemporary water temple inspired by Angkor Wat in Cambodia
Aquaworld has 11 huge waterslides, 17 indoor and outdoor adventure and swimming pools as well as saunas and thermal baths for the grown ups. Additionally, during the summer months there is a 1.5 hectare landscaped beach. The beach has two more children’s pools, a 25-meter swimming pool, sun loungers, playgrounds, mini golf, a trampoline, and Hungary’s largest wet playground, Aqua Spray Park!
Caribe Aquatic Park – Vila-seca, Spain
Caribe Aquatic Park is the PortAventura World water park where you can cool off and glide down the many slides and pools in a world where water is the main attraction! Caribe Aquatic Park offers up more than 50,000 m2 filled with fun! There’s sixteen different attractions and pools where you can practice rafting or whiz down the slides. There’s waterfalls, lush green spaces filled with tropical plants and palm trees and plenty of options for food.
Western Water Park – Magaluf
Western Water Park is a popular Wild West-themed water park in Magaluf, Mallorca, known for its exciting mix of thrilling slides, family-friendly attractions and themed areas like Western Land, Indian Town and El Paso. The park features adrenaline-fuelled rides such as The Beast (one of the tallest water slides in Spain) alongside wave pools, lazy rivers, chill-out zones and dedicated kids’ areas, making it a hit with families, teens and groups alike.
Like most water parks in Europe, Western Water Park operates seasonally and is typically open from Mid-May to end of September.

Therme – Manchester, England
Don’t get too excited – this brand new waterpark and wellness resort near the Trafford Centre in Manchester was due to open in 2023 but this has since been pushed back to 2028! Work has finally started on this exciting new park which is set to feature 18 water slides, 10 pools, wellness & spa zones and an indoor beach – it’s definitely going to be high on our list of waterparks to try when it eventually opens!
