Amy has a bit of a reputation for being heavy on her headphones, I can’t tell you how many pairs she’s been through – either damaging the charging port through not being careful with cables or all out snapping the headset. Her most recent pair were held together with Duct tape for months as we had refused to buy her a new pair!
As a result, we tend to buy her quite cheap headphones – which probably perpetuates the problem.
Her BuddyPhones are definitely the most expensive headphones she’s had to date and guess what, they’re also the best. Shocker. I’m hopeful that through them being far better quality and her being a bit older now and more able to look after them properly, that they will last her longer.
The first win for the BuddyPhones Cosmos+Kids headphones is a proper sturdy carry case for them – assuming she puts her new headphones away properly as opposed to leaving them out on the sofa to be sat on or chewed by the dog, this moulded storage case will keep her headphones clean and protected when not in use!
The over ear headphones themselves are super comfortable with thick cushioned ear pieces and an adjustable headband meaning she can get the perfect fit and not have to faff about adjusting them all the time.
The headphones connect wirelessly – which means no need to worry about cables getting caught or damaged – and the Bluetooth set up was seamless. The battery life is around 24 hours but you can always plug them into the device if the battery has gone!
Noise limiting is a really important safety feature in children’s headphones and something we prioritise when buying headphones for Amy as we know from experience that she has a tendency to listen to things far too loud if not limited. Noise induced hearing loss cannot be reversed so protecting children’s ears is vital. The BuddyPhones use a built in, always on, sound control circuit to cap the volume at levels recommended for children by the World Health Organization which gives us, as parents, real peace of mind. There are three different listening modes of 94dB TravelMode, 85dB KidsMode and 75dB ToddlerMode allowing the headphones to be tailored to the child’s needs and environment – Amy’s headphones are set to “KidsMode” as standard and she can’t alter this thanks to the “parental-lock”.
Previously I think Amy has tended to have the volume on her tablet quite high so that she can hear her music or watch videos in the car without being disturbed by her siblings or Dave and I chatting, however thanks to top quality Active Noise Cancellation, she doesn’t need to have them on so loud any more! Dave was really impressed with how effective the ANC is when he tested out the new headphones. The downside of having really good Active Noise Cancellation on your child’s head phones is that they can’t always hear you – however everyone in the family now has decent ANC headphones so we all know we need to catch each other’s attention before speaking!
The BuddyPhones Cosmos+ come with a high quality detachable mic – something which Amy enjoyed using to pretend she worked in McDonalds but actually would be really useful for gaming or online learning. The detachable mic isn’t really necessary for Amy at the moment so I’m glad it can be removed and stored safely in the case when not in use.
The BuddyPhones Cosmos+ wireless headphones are available in a range of colours with exciting characters on the headphones themselves. We went with the grey for Amy as we felt it probably looked the most grown up – at almost 9, I think she’s probably touching the top end of the target age range for these headphones in that sense.
