Car Seat Conundrums – What to buy next?

Amy is now almost 13 months old and at the moment is still using her Maxi Cosi CabrioFix (which we were gifted by the lovely Jen) and EasyFix Base  (which we borrowed from friends).  I have loved CabrioFix as a first infant carrier – she always felt safe and secure and the EasyFix Base was an absolute revelation having used the seatbelt to strap in Ben and Chloe in their Britax infant carrier.

At the time I thought I was saving money not buying a base but it was definitely a false economy.  So much quicker and safer to just “click and go” (especially when you have more than one child to get strapped in).

Anyway, although Amy is still safe and comfortable in her CabrioFix for now we are starting to think about her next stage car seat. She is not quite at the upper weight limit yet and her head still sits safely within the seat nevertheless it makes sense to be prepared.

Ben and Chloe each graduated at around a year old from their Britax infant carrier to a Britax Evolva and these are both currently serving us well.  Since we purchased those however there has been a new push towards extended rear facing with recommendations that children remain rear facing till they are around two years of age.  (You can read more here)  At first I couldn’t get my head around the whole extended rear facing thing – but I’ve really come round to the idea now.

Top of my wishlist is the Britax Dualfix as recommended to me by Kate – however it’s isofix only and our 2003 Ford Mondeo Estate doesn’t have isofix points sadly.  (Fingers crossed our next family car will have!)

How comfy does Max look in his Dual Fix?

We had planned to try out the new Cosatto Hootle however that doesn’t fit our car.  (I was gutted!)

I like the look of the   Joie i-AnchorSafe™ System car seat as reviewed by Danni & Eleanor recently.

So . . . I’d love to know your recommendations?  Do you use an extended rear facing car seat anchored with a seat belt?  What do you think should be on my wishlist?

I think the Joie is a great car seat – they also do the Joie Stages which works with a seatbelt – that could be worth looking at?

After the 'baby' car seats we invested in Britax Evolva 1-2-3 car seats that last them indefinitely. They're fantastic and we have no complaints x

I agree they're great seats and I wouldn't have any qualms about buying that again if I wasn't so keen to go extended rear facing this time.

I need to get my head around this for the twins, Lucas has a Britax Evolva which I love and I was looking at the Cosatto's too but having to buy two is a massive investment so I keep putting it off! Will be interested to see what you go for!

I am using the maxi-cosi 2wayfix base and the maxi-cosi 2way pearl at the moment and it rear faces from 6 months to 4 years and we love it! .. although for you with no isofix points it wouldnt work … we have the same problem for hubs car but Joshua is forward facing in that one with the maxi-cosi Rubi seat .. which has been fantastic
