I can’t believe we’re almost half way through the year – I’m pretty sure that there’s a direct correlation between my age and how fast time seems to be slipping away.
I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions – starting diets or fitness regimes or anything, however this January I decided to set myself a few targets for my blog. Although it started out as a hobby, a way to record memories and milestones of my children’s lives, there is no denying that it has become a business and my job. Of course I could merrily float along doing what I’d always done but I decided to set some goals, to push myself and my blog to grow.
Although blogging is about far more than numbers, a set of numerical targets is easy to measure isn’t it? I can monitor and track my progress towards those goals when they’re fixed in numbers and I can confidently tick them off when I’ve achieved them. I’m not going to sit here and list for you exactly what my aims are, as I don’t think you really care – but it was basically a list of numbers relating to social followings and such like. For the most part I’m making steady progress towards those targets and I would like to think I will have achieved most, if not all of them, by the end of this year (though some will take considerably more work than others).
I’ve actually already achieved some of those goals, mostly relating to my Instagram. When I first started to use Instagram it was under duress, I was using it because I felt I should, not because I actually wanted to – but now I love it! It’s probably my favourite of all the social media that I use! One of the goals I set at the start of the year was to get over 200 likes on an Instagram photo, which I actually achieved really early on in the year with this image:
but that has been well and truly trounced in the last couple of weeks by a picture of our playroom which currently has just less than 500 likes:
My second Instagram target had been to reach 6k followers – which I achieved a month ago (I actually hit 7k yesterday) – so I would say that Instagram is going pretty well for me at the moment!
As well as the numerical targets for my blog there are some other more airy fairy goals to achieve, things to do with web design to help make the site more organised and easier for me to manage, goals pertaining to my own time management, keeping my “to do” list to less than one page and maintaining a sensible work life balance – working on supply means I have a great work life balance when it comes to teaching however being a self employed blogger is a different matter entirely. It takes over your life if you let it!
I’d love to know if you’re working towards any specific goals at the moment? (Oh, and if you want to help me along towards my next little target, come and subscribe to my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/goingonadventureblog!)
