Things are really starting to take shape with our extension now and next on the list for finishing off is our new bathroom. Dave and I have claimed the new bathroom as ours – sort of like an unattached en suite and we’re looking forward to having our own space free from bath toys and baby shampoo!
The new bathroom sits between the two new bedrooms and is small but perfectly formed. Â The whole of the far end of the bathroom is tiled out to make a large shower area leaving just enough space for the sink and toilet. Â As you can see it is still somewhat of a work in progress! Â All the tiling is done now and was grouted by my Dad last week. Â It’s now ready for another coat of paint on the walls and fitting out ready to use! Â Dad is quite keen that we should add some colour to the walls but I like it white, I’d rather add colour with towels and other accessories as it’s much easier to update.
We’ve got the wiring in place for a lit mirror at a later date though I’m also tempted by the idea of an illuminated bathroom cabinet such as this one from Bella Bathrooms:
The fact it’s lit on both sides means it would give a really even lighting, great for applying makeup and the extra storage would always be a bonus in such a small bathroom – no need for leaving all my toiletries out on display!
We bought a cabinet for our master bathroom a while back after getting fed up with the amount of bottles and bits and pieces out on the side. Aside from it looking untidy we were conscious of things being too easily accessible to the children – nobody wants to see their expensive shampoo poured on the floor do they? Unfortunately we bought cheap and, as my Mum is so fond of saying, “You get what you pay for!” – It is already starting to show signs of wear with peeling and rust (yes how attractive) so it’s on the list of items to replace. With it’s no fuss, sleek design and rounded edges this cabinet would be a an ideal fit for the space (I’m also a big fan of soft close doors – in a family of five anything soft close is a bonus!)
I can’t wait to be able to show you our finished bathroom! I’d best crack on with choosing a colour scheme!
