Could a short break be what you need?

It’s the time of year where we’re all feeling rather sick of the cold stormy weather and are starting to think ahead to those sunny summer holidays. And, whilst two weeks of lying on a beach in the sunshine might be the dream, sometimes it just isn’t practical: be it the cost implications or perhaps just the lack of time. However, you might be surprised at how much a short break could benefit you.

In recent years Dave and I have been lucky enough to take a number of short breaks – both within the UK and Europe.

A short break in Bath

We had a long, child-free weekend in Bath which was glorious:

A weekend in Birmingham

A couple of nights in Birmingham with friends where we drank cocktails in the afternoon, did some shopping and had dinner out before hitting a burlesque club:

A quick trip to Venice

We took a rather fabulous short trip to Venice to celebrate my Mum’s 60th which involved so much walking and taking lots of photographs:

Five days in Minori

And then more recently 5 days in Minori, Italy for my friend’s 40th which basically focused on gin, food and lying on the beach:

You might be surprised just how relaxed you can feel in three or four days away from real life! Each time we have commented that it feels like we have been away forever.

Short Breaks and Slow Holidays

But it doesn’t all have to be city breaks or foreign travel – a short break just needs to give you the opportunity to escape from real life. We’ve discovered that even just two nights away camping can have a really positive impact when we need a break. Being away in the countryside, often with a lack of phone reception and no real need to do anything at all is incredibly relaxing.

I’m really starting to appreciate the benefits of slowing down and really enjoying the moment and Slow Holidays are definitely all about that – taking in the views, appreciating the beauty of nature, exploring your surroundings with no pressure to get anywhere or achieve anything – walking holidays from Inntravel are a perfect example of this!

Whilst our major travel plans for 2020 focus around our trip to New York, there’s definitely room for some short breaks in there too! Have you got any short breaks booked this year?
