Ben, Chloe and I went to York for the day to see Grandad for his birthday. (Daddy was away on Tristan’s Stag Do)
We got up and set off early but the traffic to York was a pure nightmare and instead of it taking us 1hr 15 mins we were stuck in the car for at least twice that – not what anyone needed on a beautiful sunny day! Poor Thomas was really struggling in the back of the car.
Now I adore my parents’ garden but looking after two lively little people on a hot sunny day was HARD work! The ponds make me so nervous! Ben was ok and enjoyed chasing about but Chlo needed watching much more closely. She enjoyed eating freshly picked raspberries and wanted to play in the greenhouse all day – which would be fine except by its very nature the greenhouse is roasting!! In an attempt to cool her down and get her out of the sun for a bit Granny and I whizzed her off to the supermarket with us on a paddling pool mission. Asda was a compete fail with a big empty space where the paddling pools had once been! I thought we were going to have to go home empty handed but decided to have a quick trip over to Sainsburys on the off chance. WINNER! Not only was Sainburys beautifully cool (yes I took my shoes off and cooled my feet on the floor) but they had lots of outdoor toys to choose from and we were able to buy a lovely new paddling pool.
The paddling pool was pretty easy to inflate and Ben really enjoyed using Grandad’s hosepipe to fill it up. Chloe wasn’t keen at first but eventually decided after a couple of hours that it was actually quite a lot of fun after all!
