Today our baby girl turned one.

She has had the least spectacular birthday ever. I had hoped we’d be able to have a party for her at the weekend but our house is far from being able to accept guests. Once we realised that wasn’t really feasible we made plans to spend the weekend in York so we could celebrate my Mum’s birthday too (which was yesterday) but those plans fell by the wayside too – mainly because driving two cars to York is expensive & we’re not all the flush right now.

Last night I was feeling massively guilty and emotional. I was so disorganised for her birthday – I hadn’t even bought her a card. I guess part of me was just blocking it out, mentally postponing it. I’m not ready for Amy to be one and I hate that we aren’t in a position to make a big fuss of her.
But really. Does she care that she hasn’t had a party? Does she care that she hasn’t been showered with extravagant gifts? No. What she cares about is that she spent the day with her Mummy, ate cake and was fussed over by her Daddy, big brother and sister when they got home. I’m sure when she’s older she’ll throw the “Why didn’t I get a party and a bouncy castle like Ben and Chloe?” at me – well the answer to that will be “Your birthday is in November kid!” – but it still won’t stop me feeling guilty. Maybe when our house is finished we’ll be able to have a little belated party for her in the New Year.
The highlight of Amy’s day was definitely the birthday cake . . .

The low point however was puking that birthday cake back up all over our bed . . .
(I’ve included a picture at the end for comedy value but I’m warning you now so if you don’t want to see you can stop scrolling down!! I should point out that it was pure fluke that Dave caught the moment on camera – we don’t normally take pictures of our children vomiting!)
The first year of Amy’s life has flown by. I can’t believe she’s already a year old. In lots of ways it feels like she’s always been here and in others that she’s only arrived yesterday. She is such a placid and pleasant little lady, she slotted into our family like she was always meant to be there (and of course I suppose she was). Our little Bo has completed our family and we couldn’t love her more.
Happy Birthday baby girl.
