The weather has well and truly turned. Â We started the week with gorgeous blue skies, washing on the line and a trip to the park. Â We’ve ended it with grey skies and splashing in puddles. Â
I have a love / hate relationship with the autumn – I love the bright crisp days and the gorgeous colours but then when the rain comes and the leaves are bare I’m not such a fan! Â
Despite my dislike of miserable wet days, we try not to let them stop us getting out and about. Â Apart from anything else the rain doesn’t stop just because it’s school run time does it?
Ben and Chloe both had fabulous Muddy Puddles dungarees when they were younger which were great for sticking on over whatever they were wearing however they have long since outgrown those and we’ve not got round to replacing them. Â
Ben has recently been sent a pair of Muddy Puddles Puddlefleece trousers which he was looking forward to testing out – the silver lining to the miserable weather this weekend was that he was able to give them their first wear whilst walking Thomas in the park this afternoon!
At first Ben said he wasn’t really in the mood for splashing in puddles, he said he didn’t want to get wet . . . once he’d had a bit of a stomp about and realised that he could trust his new Muddy Puddles Puddlefleece trousers he was more than happy to have a good splash – the only thing which got wet was his cheeky face!
What we love about the Muddy Puddles Puddlefleece waterproof trousers
* They can be worn tucked into or over the top of wellies
* They’re fully waterproof – perfect for sitting on wet benches, falling in the mud or splashing in muddles
* The fleece lining is soft and cosy allowing them to be worn as proper trousers (or over the top of normal trousers for extra warmth)
* They’re machine washable (as you’d expect from something designed to get dirty!)
* They’re not sweaty
* They don’t feel like plasticy waterproof trousers, the fabric is soft to touch
* They’re lightweight so can be worn all day if need be
What we’re not so keen on
* They’re a bit rustly when walking but Ben didn’t seem to notice
* The reflective logo on the waistline is in a bit of an odd place in my opinion as it would only be seen if you wore your coat tucked into your trousers (and who does that?!)
On the way home from our walk I asked Ben if there was anything he didn’t like about his trousers but he couldn’t think of anything. He said they were ace! I think he’s going to get plenty of wear out of them as the weather gets wetter and colder (they’re going to be perfect for sledging!)

I love the photo of his cheeky grin! A gorgeous photo of your boy! The trousers look fab, I love fleece lined waterproof trousers, they are great for winter, although I don't have, just the boys. They always get great outdoor gear and we have to make do! Puddle splashing is a favourite activity of my two as well, who doesn't love to splash in puddles?!

Awwww he looks so happy splashing in puddles. Nothing beats being able to be free and get as messy as you like. These trousers are so good. It looks like you're going to have lots of fun with them this winter.
Aww he looks so cute in his wellies, he must of enjoyed himself so much, it’s always good to find our kids the right clothes to wear especially waterproofs and wellies! How often did you take the kids out during the cold weather? And when tucking the trousers over the wellies, was it hard to pull them off?
No, we never struggled to get them off.
we take them out all the time in the cold weather – just make sure they are well wrapped up and we tend to take hot drinks with us too.
Hello there, I do hope these trousers were amazing for Ben he looked like he enjoyed them every second he was wearing them, anyways sorry for the random comment though I have been looking for a post like this and I needed you’re opinion as you may have an answer for it, My 8 year old son has recently grown out of his old pair of wellies and we got him a pair of French Navy hunter wellies, he absolutely loves them to bits, however we also bought him a brand new pair of waterproof trousers to fit the colour scheme of the wellies, and they are also the puddlefleece wellies Ben is wearing in the photos! However this is the dilemma I have right now, when we go on long country walks with him, he decides to tuck the trousers over the wellies because he says he doesn’t want to get his wellies all muddy (bless him) so my questions for you are: When Ben wore the trousers over his wellies, did the trousers get dirty or muddy at all? And my 2nd question is, when dressing you’re kids up for the cold weather and if they are wearing wellies, do you prefer the trousers to tucked in or tucked over the wellies? Thanks for your message! Yes Ben loved his puddlefleece trousers – and they ended up being worn by all three children before being passed on to friends. They were often filthy but washed up just fine as you’d expect from Muddy Puddles clothing. (Bless him trying to keep his fancy new wellies clean – what a love!)
Ben absolutely hated tucking his trousers into his boots when he was younger as he felt it was really uncomfortable – and I tend to think if you tuck them in then if they go splashing in puddles the water can go over the boots and run into them making their feet cold and wet – if they are worn over the boots they’re less likely to have that problem. That said I do think its just personal choice – my girls would both tuck their trousers in to their wellies!
Hello there, been looking for a review similar to this for a while now, was a good read and well worth the time. I have a couple of questions to ask, as I have a younger son myself he is also in that age category where he’s always in the mood for going out and about, jumping in puddles and getting ridiculous muddy, I guess we all did that when we were younger at some point I guess, I’m looking to get a pair of protective clothing similar to what Ben is wearing in the pictures, since this was 8 years ago, would you still go out and buy these trousers again or would you now buy a different pair?
2nd question
As a caring mum who always wants my son to look good when were either out in town or going on a muddy adventure, if I was to buy a pair of trousers in the same colour as Ben’s, would the wellies have to be a similar colour? I can see the wellies that Ben is wearing in the picture are quite a similar colour and really fits the part, did he ever wear hunter wellies with the trousers? The reason why I’m asking this is because my son has a pair of Green hunter wellies and he also likes tucking his trousers over his wellies, so my question is would it matter if I got a pair of trousers that are a completely different colour to his wellies that possibly made him stand out?

Yes, I’d absolutely still by Muddy Puddles trousers – they were brilliant for all three of my kids when they were younger. The Puddlefleece would be better for autumn / winter splashing though, they might get a bit warm in spring / summer.
I don’t think it would matter what colour the wellies were – my girls always had really brightly coloured wellies, Ben’s tended to be more muted and green or blue (but I don’t think there was an awful lot of choice). The one thing I would say is that if you tuck the trousers into the wellies, you’re more likely to get wet feet from the water splashing over the boots – if the trousers sit over the boots then they would stop that.
