During the first lockdown, we invested in an IKEA sofa bed (which we managed to pick up second hand in fantastic condition) the idea being that it provided the kids with a sofa for their living room but also meant we had somewhere for friends to sleep (after over a decade of offering out our sofa / a blow up mattress / one of the kids beds). Of course we have then not really had much opportunity for guests but the kids have enjoyed the odd sleepover downstairs together for novelty value.
Whilst the IKEA sofa bed is easy to set up – I find sorting bedding for it a bit of a pain. We have a flat sheet which just doesn’t seem to stay in place and last time we had friends over, I couldn’t find the spare double duvet so they ended up with a single duvet each (which perhaps wasn’t a bad thing!) I knew there had to be a better, more convenient solution.

And, thanks to a 7.0 tog 3 season warmth rating, the Night Owl 3-in1 offers cosy, comfort for sleepovers and camping through autumn, winter and spring (to be honest, I’d still use it in the summer but maybe just with the zip down a bit or a foot kicked out to help me regulate my temperature!)
Although the Night Owl 3in1 sleeping bag does feel quite bulky in it’s storage bag, it is surprisingly lightweight and, helpfully, fits nicely into the storage space under our sofa bed which means it’s ready to use whenever we need it.
For us the Night Owl 3-in1 sleeping bag is a great solution for both adult guests and for kids’ sleepovers. It’s machine washable (though the two bags must be washed separately) and can be line dried or popped in the drier and be dry again in as little as 90 minutes so I know it’s always fresh for whoever needs to use it next.
Personally, the Night Owl sleeping bag isn’t something we would take camping as it just doesn’t really fit in with how we camp. As I mentioned above, I don’t personally like sharing a sleeping bag as I get really claustrophobic and actually, Dave and I have individual camp beds rather than a double air bed. I prefer a mummy style hooded sleeping bag for extra warmth when we’re camping and the Night Owl sleeping bag is a more traditional rectangular shape. I also think it would be quite bulky for our over stuff car – though Dave did point out, all in it is probably smaller than our two individual sleeping bags fitted together.
