This year’s Tatton Park’s Christmas Mansion them is “Once Upon a Christmas” which invites you to step through the pages of your favourite festive poems and stories.
From a Christmas Carol to the Nutcracker, each room is decorated to bring to life a classic story from the season – I think my favourite was the 12 Days of Christmas, Amy really liked the Nutcracker and the Snow Queen. Each room is so very different from the last and there’s just so much to see – you could spend ages in each room and still not spot all the details. There is nothing lowkey or minimalist about the styling here!
As well as the stunning literary themed festive décor, you’ll find a mischief of mice hiding in each room waiting for you to spot (there’s no trail sheet to mark off or set number in each room, it’s just a nice little extra and something for the little ones to focus on as you make your way through the house).
In one of the last rooms, you are invited to write a Christmas wish to hang on the tree – I wished for peace after what has been a somewhat challenging year in lots of ways. Amy wished for a motorbike which she most certainly will not be getting!
What you need to know about visiting Once Upon a Christmas at The Mansion
- Although Tatton Park itself is open at 10am, the Christmas Mansion isn’t open till 11am (we didn’t realise this and ended up passing the time in The Stables with a hot drink!)
- Entrance to the Christmas Mansion can be pre-booked giving you a set timeslot to avoid the spaces becoming too crowded
- Walk ins are allowed but I would recommend booking to avoid disapppointment!
- We were in the first group of people to enter the Mansion which meant it was about as quiet as it could get – so we didn’t feel that we were rushed or swept along with the crowd
- Take your time – there is so much to take in!
- Tatton Park recommend you should leave an hour for your tour of the Christmas Mansion – it took us about 45 minutes but, as I said, we had booked the first slot on the first day of the season so it wasn’t heaving.
- Don’t miss the spectacular tree at the bottom of the staircase – it’s huge so isn’t easy to miss but a family behind us had done exactly that so I directed them back!
- Similarly, we nearly left after the main loop, not realising that there was another corridor with some more rooms to visit!
- Make sure you use the toilets in the Stableyard before heading over to the Mansion as you won’t be able to go back into the Mansion if you have to leave.
- This event requires a separate ticket from other Tatton Christmas events, such as Father Christmas at the Farm and Yuletide in the gardens.
Once Upon a Christmas at The Mansion runs until Wednesday 31st December 2025.
Tickets are available to book online now priced at £15 for adults and £11 for children (the ticket price applies to National Trust members too) You will also need to pay for parking on site at a cost of £8.
