Planning a visit to Maidstone

Over recent years it has become increasingly common to take what has become known as a “Staycation” – taking a holiday in our very own country.  If you’d suggested this to me a few years ago I’d have laughed – what sort of holiday doesn’t involve guaranteed sunshine and outdoor swimming pools right?  As a parent of three small children my attitude has steadily changed and, whilst I’m very much looking forward to our first family holiday abroad this year, I can now totally see the appeal of holidaying closer to home. 

Maidstone in Kent is just over 30 miles south-east of London.  Making Holiday Inn Maidstone your base would make for a great few days away. 

Top of my list of things to do in Maidstone would be: 

* Leaving Maidstone for the day to head up to London for a cheeky jaunt round all the central tourist spots – or maybe even a great day’s shopping if we happened to be “child free”!

* Taking a trip to Leeds Castle – there’s so much to explore with it’s stunning moat, formal gardens, beautiful parkland and regular organised activities and events.  As an added bonus your admission fee allows you to visit as many times as you like over the course of a year – what great value!  I have it on good authority from my friend Gabriela that their teas are fab! 

* I’m reliably informed that Mote Park has gorgeous walks along with a great playground and ice cream stand – what more could you need for a perfect picnic with the kids? 

* Kent Life, “Kent’s rural heritage experience” would be right up our street with animals, playgrounds (both indoor and outdoor) and all sorts of farm paraphernalia!

* You can’t beat an afternoon tea so this list of places to have afternoon tea in Kent should come in handy!
