The Palace Theatre in Manchester is located in the city centre, with a number of nearby dining options including a McDonald’s just a two minute walk away but if you’re looking for something a little more upscale, I’ve pulled together some suggestions for you!
If you’re looking for parking near Manchester Palace Theatre you’ll find that here, or the Palace Theatre is within easy walking distance of Oxford Road Station and the St Peter’s Square tram stop.
Here are some of the best restaurants within walking distance of the Palace Theatre – listed in order of proximity:
The Refuge, Oxford St, Manchester M60 7HA
Situated just over the road from the Palace Theatre on Oxford Street inside the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel is The Refuge. This stylish restaurant and bar housed in a beautifully restored Victorian building would easily be my first choice for a pre-theatre cocktail or an early dinner – they have great vegetarian options too and a specific pre theatre dinner menu.
The Refuge is a hop, skip and a jump (or a one minute walk) from The Palace Theatre.
Albert’s Schloss, 27 Peter St, Manchester M2 5QR
If you follow these guys on instagram you’ll know why I’ve put them on the list.
This Bavarian-style beer hall serves hearty food, including German sausages, schnitzel, and pretzels, along with a great selection of beers.
Albert’s Schloss is a 9 minute walk from The Palace Theatre and to be honest, looks like so much fun you might want to go there after the theatre rather than before!

Hawksmoor Restaurant, 184 -186 Deansgate, Manchester M3 3WB
The Hawksmoor Manchester is easily a favourite of ours – but I’m not sure I’d recommend it for pre-theatre dining unless you have considerably more restraint than Dave and I who usually walk out of the Hawksmoor full to bursting and definitely not ready to sit in the theatre. In fact, it’s actually a great option for dinner after a matinee performance (which is what we did last time we were in London) and is a 12 minute walk from the Palace Theatre.
It’s worth noting that Hawksmoor Manchester do actually offer a pre-theatre express menu.
These are just a few options near the Palace Theatre that are highly regarded. It’s always a good idea to check their websites or make a reservation in advance, especially during peak dining times.
