You all know we are big fans of a Eurocamp holiday, and so today I’m sharing with you a guest review from Tori about her recent Eurocamp experience at La Croix du Vieux Pont, Paris. La Croix du Vieux Pont is a popular campsite with those wanting take a day trip to Disneyland Paris and also makes a great base for visiting Paris itself.

Highlights of a Eurocamp holiday!
Question: How do you entertain three kids of all different ages on holiday? Answer: Take them to a Eurocamp! The range of activities, the freedom, and the choices that my children had on this holiday were our main highlights.
Eurocamp Croix du Vieux Pont was the base for our Easter week near Paris and the kids were soon describing it as ‘home’. They made friends, they got acquainted with the layout and they felt comfortable heading out to the social areas where they could have fun! Mums and Dads therefore do have a chance to relax. It’s a great combination of chill-out time, activity, and family bonding. We sure made some great memories together.
Where in the world is La Croix du Vieux Pont?
The location of La Croix du Vieux Pont was ideal for a family holiday in France. We took full advantage of the proximity to Paris and explored a little in the locality too. The campsite was based in Vic Sur Aisne in the lovely region of Berne-Riviere. A haven in a traditional French village within easy reach of many major towns, cities, and attractions.
It took us around 2.5 hours to drive to La Croix du Vieux Pont from Calais Ferry port. It had been a long time since I’d been on a ferry and driven around France so I knew it would be a nostalgic trip!

Who should go to La Croix du Vieux Pont?
A Eurocamp holiday is suitable for all families. Prior to us going there, I didn’t know if it would be ‘for us’ but believe me, when you find out everything on offer, there is something for all ages and everyone has a similar mindset.
My teenager thoroughly enjoyed the football and the beach, my four-year-old loved the soft play and the playground and my seven-year-olds top pick was bowling! I would also travel there with a baby on the basis that it was safe and quiet and had a home from home feel. There were also black out blinds in the windows and a gate on the balcony.
What’s it worth?
Value for money is a factor that I would score this type of holiday very highly on. Whilst it is not luxury accommodation, it certainly provides an adequate level of facilities and comfort that allows you to fully enjoy being away.
My usual test is whether it is more or less comfortable than being at home in my own bed, and in fact, I’d say that the cosy and clean lodge that we stayed in was just as pleasant as being surrounded by our usual creature comforts. This is particularly important when holidaying with young children or babies.
The journey to La Croix du Vieux Pont
We headed off down the motorway from Birmingham having packed our car to the brim. This was a huge advantage over flying as we didn’t have to worry about the size or weight of our cases or whether we had extra bags, equipment, or food – we could just throw it all in and go! There was also plenty of room for our holiday souvenirs on the way back and we didn’t have to leave inflatables or footballs behind!
For the way down, we’d decided to break up the journey and to spend the night in Dover prior to catching our ferry the next morning. But in fact, this amount of driving was easily doable in a day, which we did for the return trip.
Catching the ferry was straightforward and as we arrived early, we were allowed to board an earlier boat. The kids enjoyed the fresh air on the outside deck and playing in the family lounge. You could shop, eat, and drink on board and so, it was nice to be able to stretch your legs whilst travelling rather than being confined to your seat.
Once in Calais we were back on the road and arrived at the Eurocamp by early evening where the friendly reception staff gave us our map and keys. It’s best to get acquainted with the tourist information office and the guest services hut on arrival. This way you can ensure you pick up all of the booklets about the locality and the activities on offer (both on site and further afield) straight away. You can then plan your week and ensure that you don’t miss anything that you might like to do. You will also find out about the kids’ clubs, entertainment, and various opening times.

La Croix du Vieux Pont campsite facilities
We were staying in an Azure 3 bed lodge which had an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, a shower room, separate toilet, a double bedroom and two twin bedrooms. The shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen was well-equipped with a good-sized fridge and a microwave. We had requested bed linen in advance, so this was ready for us when we arrived. It was nice that they had put an extra chair at the dining table as they knew there were five of us! Outside was a garden area, a balcony, and a BBQ. In better weather, I could see us sitting out there most evenings!
There was a very good convenience store on site in which you could find everything you needed to self-cater for a week, however the local supermarket was only a ten-minute drive away, so my husband did a big shop on day one. There was also an onsite bakery, so we made full use of that as my personal favourite breakfast is a strong French coffee and a pain au chocolat.
By the end of day one we had familiarized ourselves well with the site. There is an area called ‘The Kiosk’ where you can buy a card to pay for the activities (2 euros each). This gives you an extra ten free credits per 20 euro spend, or more if you buy a bigger card. There were trampolines, racing quads, a soft play tower, a bouncy castle, swan pedalos, bumper boats and canoes. You could also fish in the lake, next to which was the brilliant playground, the table tennis cabin, and the mini golf. A short walk would take you over to the beach and the basketball courts. You could hire golf clubs, tennis rackets or table tennis bats and bikes from the guest services hut.
Over at the main centre were the three swimming pools. One was outdoor and the other main pool and children’s pool were inside, and both had slides. There was also a jacuzzi which unfortunately wasn’t bubbling nor hot when we were there but I’m sure it will be later in the year! Also in this complex was the indoor football / multi sports pitch, soft play, bowling, laser quest, games machines, air hockey and the bar. We spent some wonderful evenings enjoying these pursuits together with other families we had met.
As our children are extremely fussy eaters, we didn’t make much use of the three restaurants that are on site, but we did eat rather a lot of the luxury ice cream! I did notice that the menu in the beach bar was excellent – full of child friendly choices and of course they did scrumptious Nutella crepes! We do like to self-cater, which on this holiday was simple as all the kids’ usual foods were easy to obtain.
Day trips from La Croix du Vieux Pont
On the second day, we made the trip to Disneyland. The La Croix du Vieux Pont Eurocamp site is an ideal base for families who want the magical Disney experience. It took us only one hour and twenty minutes to get to Disneyland Paris from La Croix du Vieux Pont through scenic fields and smooth roads.
We wanted to take full advantage of being at the Disney Parks so we chose to stay over there one night at the Avengers hotel. Doing so meant that we didn’t have to make the drive back and forth, but the main advantage was having the extra magic hour in the parks between 8.30a.m and 9.30a.m. This meant that we only had a short queue to get onto the most popular rides such as the Spiderman Web adventure and Hyper Space Mountain! My favourite ride was the Ratatouille ride and luckily, we only had to wait ten minutes for that one also! The kids adored seeing all the superheroes in the hotel and especially posing for photos in the Avengers Superhero station, however they were all keen to get ‘home’ to the Eurocamp!
Our fourth day was spent back at La Croix du Vieux Pont and had it not been raining I’m sure we would’ve gone for an adventure by bike. There are many trails available and a lot of people enjoy running around there too. I’ve found some activities in the vicinity that we would like to try next time for example: Chateau di Pierrefonds, Soissonnais Caves and La Reserve Exotique.
On day five we headed into the city of Paris itself. I think it’s good for the children to explore other cities and it helps their understanding of the geography to see major sites. We spent some time near the Eiffel Tower where there is a lovely playground and sand to play in. After dinner in a traditional French restaurant (yes the kids stuck to burgers chips and pasta!), my husband and my eldest headed off to see Paris Saint Germain playing Lens at the Parc Des Princes stadium. If you have a keen footballer in the family, it’s another wonderful experience to try. If you can’t get tickets for the game, it’s also possible to get a stadium tour during the day.
One of the best ways to see Paris is by boat. We booked a private boat trip on the Seine for day 6 and headed down to the riverside at 11am. We had the boat for two hours and it was a mix of sightseeing / learning about history and basically having a disco on the water! We zoomed past other boats with our own choice of music on the speakers. Our guide and captain was keen to bop along with us and he provided drinks for the children and a bottle of wine! It was the perfect end to our week in France. We were pleased to have our final evening and morning back at the Eurocamp doing all the activities we loved and using up our kiosk card!
I know that this holiday was a hit with the kids as they were very sad to leave and asked when we could return. Naturally I was doing my research on the ferry on the way back to see which Eurocamp I’d like to book next. I would recommend this particular Eurocamp to anyone and would definitely go back.
