Siblings – August 2019

As you can imagine after a month of basically living in each other’s pockets through the summer holidays, there’s been plenty of bickering and stress combined with some gorgeous heart-warming moments.

With three, there are times where they all get on like a house on fire, and times where two are closer and one gets left out. This last month, the pairings have changed on a near daily basis.

Ben and Chloe have been thick as thieves in the run up to their trip to London and really enjoyed each other’s company on the day – geeking out over Harry Potter together, choosing wands and debating various facts and details from the stories.

Ben loves to play big brother to Amy, teaching her things and holding her hand – she plays up to this role and let’s him. She’s quite happy to be the little sister in this set up and their relationship is lovely to watch. That’s not to say there aren’t times where Ben has had enough and wants leaving alone!

Chloe and Amy can, and do, play beautifully together at times – usually if Chloe is in the mood for role play and their games can go on for ages. There’s always lots of debating about roles they should both play and who will say what “in the game”.

It all falls apart if Ben and Chloe decide they’re going to play Minecraft together on the Xbox – if Amy’s happy watching TV then all is well with the world but we often hear moans of “I’ve nobody to play with” or “They won’t play my game” – and in fairness, at 10, Ben really doesn’t want to play with her dolls very often!

Just a few more weeks and we’ll back at school – and I guess it will all change again. Ben and Chloe are in the Juniors and get to see each other at breaks and lunchtimes whereas Amy is in the Infants on a different site and doesn’t seem her big brother and sister for the whole school day. Of course the time apart does them good!

How have you siblings been getting on through the summer?

My boys have loved and annoyed each other in equal measure this holiday – 3 is a tricky number though. We used to have a lot of arguments when we had 5 younger ones because whenever 2 were busy (one was 4 years older) and you were left with 3, they’d always pair up and leave someone out.
