As a family of five with a love of adventures and travel, we have quite broad needs when it comes to luggage from traditional hard shell suitcases for sunny holidays abroad and smaller bags for flying hand luggage only, to sturdy holdalls for camping and festivals.
This summer, Very have all our luggage needs covered so we’ve upgraded some of our existing luggage and are all set for a summer of fun and adventures!
Rock Luggage: Hydra-Lite 3 Piece Set
This 3 piece set of luggage is the perfect mix and match set of suitcases – for a start, they all fit inside each other when not in use which means they take up considerably less room in the loft than our old suitcases. When storage space in your home is at a premium, having luggage that doesn’t take up too much space is really important!
Having three different sizes of case (cabin, medium and large) means we can pick and choose which suitcase (or suitcases) fits our needs best for a particular trip. Chloe is going on a school trip to Belgium later this month and will likely use the mid-sized one for that whereas the larger one would have been ideal for my recent long haul trip to Mexico with Kirst, and Dave often flies hand-luggage only for business.
Although the Hydro-Lite is designed to be ultra lightweight, it is also built to last with a 15yr manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects arising from faulty workmanship or materials.
The cases are super easy to move with their telescopic, push-button handle and 8 smooth rolling wheels – the cases can be easily pulled behind you or rolled along bedside you (which my sister tells me is better for my back as it means I’m not twisting – she’s probably right but my old suitcase wouldn’t do it!)
The Hydra-Lite cases are fitted with an integrated TSA combination lock to keep your belongings safe. An integrated lock is definitely better than popping one your zip and then loosing it (which I might well have done earlier this year)!
(Be sure to check cabin bag sizes with your flight provider as it feels like they change constantly and they all have different rules – I’ve been stung by this before with EasyJet and it’s cost me an extra £80 at the airport!)
THE NORTH FACE Large Base Camp Duffel Bag
I’m a big fan of a duffel bag for adventures – especially ones that fold up nice and small when not in use! For me, a duffel bag is the most flexible type of luggage we own and is our go to for weekend adventures, camping holidays and festivals.
This Base Camp Large Duffel Bag by The North Face features water resistant ballistic nylon to protect your gear from the elements – this is especially important to us at festivals when we might be carrying our stuff across a field or two in the rain! It also features clever straps which can be used to carry it as a backpack too leaving your hands free to carry other stuff – again perfect for festivals!
With mesh lined pockets for holding wet gear and double stitched seams for durability, this bag is much sturdier than our existing holdalls – and as such is a bit heavier too but for our purposes, that extra weight isn’t a problem.
This North Face holdall is a bag we will reach for again and again and I’m trusting we will get years of use out of it!
Jabra Elite 4 Active Earbuds
Whilst headphones don’t count as luggage per se – I’m including them in this article as they do have an impact on your luggage, or at least the amount of space you have in it! Chloe typically uses quite a large pair of over ear headphones which are super comfy but not ideal for traveling when your space is limited.
Chlo has two exciting trips coming up – one with school to Belgium, and one with Granny and Grandad to Germany where she will be flying hand luggage only for the first time so we treated her to a pair of Jabra Elite 4 Earbuds – these headphones are noise cancelling, water and sweat proof, ergonomic, and incredibly durable making them perfect for travel (and they’re her favourite colour too!). Both Ben and I already have Jabra earbuds so we know these will be a win for both adventures and day to day life.
