One of my most favourite ways to change up a room is to add new images to the wall – be it photographs or artwork. If you came to my house, you’d notice that almost all the walls are painted brilliant white and then decorated with prints, with pictures, with shelving and ornaments – putting a new picture on the wall or rearranging knick-knacks on a shelf is a far easier way of giving a room a new feel than having to totally repaint or strip and repaper walls (and I say this as we’re in the middle of totally redecorating Amy’s very tired and scruffy bedroom).
White walls and carefully framed poster prints means that I can easily decorate the kids’ rooms according to their current “aesthetic” and not make the mistake of a very good friend of mine who went all out on Doctor Who theming her daughter’s bedroom (wallpaper and everything) only for her to decide mere months later that she actually wasn’t that bothered by Doctor Who any more . . .
We decorated Chloe’s room last summer, swapping out her grubby cream walls for fresh brilliant white, moving her furniture around and buying her a new wardrobe. This left her with a large empty white wall which has been on the “to do list” for a while but neither of us were quite sure what to put there. She has recently invested in some LED light strip to go around the top of her room which her Dad has promised her he will put up as soon has her room is tidy (she bought this strip back in July so . . . ) but we knew we needed to get something on the walls, something more grown up than her old Harry Potter poster, something which fit more with her “aesthetic”.
We hopped on Etsy together and started looking for digital downloads and founds this gorgeous set of three abstract prints which match her “green” vibes. She’s absolutely thrilled with them but I can’t currently get a decent picture of them for you because a) her room is a complete tip and b) the low light that this grey November is offering me isn’t conducive to getting a decent photo – I’ll try update this later!
Amy’s room is in the middle of a full makeover – her room was really tired and never really looked very “put together” so we agreed to decorate her room for her 10th birthday. As is always the case, this has taken far more work than initially planned but we’re getting there.
One of the features of Amy’s room that will remain after the makeover is her “cow gallery” – she has everything from an expensive print her Granny and Grandad bought her to a paint by numbers cow that Aunty Nic did for her during lockdown, framed birthday cards and random cow prints from ETSY so as part of her makeover I bought another couple of downloadable prints from Etsy: a cow licking her nose and this beautiful watercolour style cow.
Of course whilst I was at it, it was only fair to treat Ben to a new print too – he has a set of three black A3 poster frames that I bought a while ago and two of them needed new prints so he chose a very cool monkey with headphones on (which is entirely appropriate as Ben is rarely seen without his headphones either!)
Buying digital downloads from Etsy and getting them printed yourself is generally much cheaper than buying printed versions – especially if you’re doing quite a few at once like this. It also means you’ve got free reign to print whatever size of image you want rather than relying on the sizes offered by your Etsy seller.

The website was really easy to use – I’ve used a lot of photo printing websites in my time and this is definitely one of the least faffy. Upload your print, choose the size and add it to the basket.
It took about a week for my order to arrive – this is not a next day job – your items obviously have to be printed and then shipped. There are clear delivery times stated on the website so do check those if you’re ordering something in a hurry.
My poster prints arrived in a cardboard box, neatly rolled and wrapped in brown paper – no unnecessary plastic here thanks!
As soon as I opened the package, I was impressed by the quality of the printing, by how bright and bold the colours were – My-picture.co.uk had done my Etsy artists proud and I was excited to get everything on the walls!
Because the prints arrived tightly rolled, I laid them out flat with some books on the back to help flatten them out before framing them – I’ve previously made the mistake of trying to flatten out prints by rolling them the other way and ending up with creases so this time I went with patience!
Although My-picture.co.uk do offering a framing service, I chose to take a trip to IKEA to pick up frames for them so that they would match everything else in the rooms. Even though all five prints I ordered are the same size, I chose bigger frames for Chloe’s to make more of a statement. Amy’s prints were slotting into an existing gallery and Ben’s I already had a frame for (or so I thought – it turned out when I came to frame it that the frame was actually A3 and not 40cm x 30cm so it didn’t fit – back to IKEA for me!).
As yet, Chloe is the only one who has her prints on the wall as I still need to sort a new frame for Ben and Amy’s room isn’t quite ready for her cow gallery to be rehung – but what I can tell you is that all three of them are thrilled with the prints that we’ve chosen and I’m thrilled with the quality of the prints and how easy they were to order!
