What you need to know about Birchfield Farm Tulip Field

Tulips have been my most favourite flower for as long as I can remember – in fact Dave and I got married in April especially so I could have a tulip bouquet – so when I heard that Birchfield Farm had planted a tulip field for the first time this year, I knew I had to make the time to go.

Birchfield Farm is a small farm on the outskirts of Harrogate hosting seasonal events like pumpkin picking, PYO strawberries, lambing and a maize maze . . . but for just a few weeks this April, you can visit their brand new tulip field.

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Birchfield Farm’s tulip field this spring:

Tulip season is short – if you’re planning a visit, crack on! The field is looking gorgeous right now and there’s definitely flowers left to bloom but you don’t want to miss the best of it!

Parking at Birchfield Farm is free. There are staff directing you to spaces so this is well managed and there is an overflow car park if required.

Entry to the tulip field is £2 per person and you don’t need to book. Staff will stamp your hand so you can leave and re-enter the field but we didn’t feel this was necessary.

Entrance to Birchfield Farm tulip field is charged separately to the farm itself – we didn’t bother with the farm today as had gone especially to see the tulips.

Get to Birchfield Farm first thing while the field is quiet for the best photos. The field currently opens at 10am and I think we arrived at about 10.15am the field was mostly empty, or at least empty enough that you could angle your camera to avoid getting anyone else in your shots

Make sure your camera is fully charged – this is all about the photo ops. I think I took just over 500 photos on my big camera whilst Dave was in charge of filming for me! There are some carefully placed selfie stands for you to pop your phone on and make sure you can get everyone into the picture for a change.

Wear suitable footwear – you’re walking through a field so it has the potential to be be super muddy. That said we were really surprised how dry it was underfoot despite so much rain over recent weeks.

Check the weather forecast – we were lucky with bright blue skies! It wouldn’t be half as nice to visit on a grey wet day as there’s no shelter in the field.

You must not cut or pick the tulips in the field. Pre-cut tulips are available to purchase at £1 a stem or 10 for £9 paid cash or card.

Dogs are not allowed at Birchfield Farm with the exception of Guide Dogs.

We definitely recommend getting an ice cream after – you’ll pay £3 for a single scoop (or £4.10 for a double scoop) and extra 50p for flake. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine eating our ice creams before setting off home!

We had a gorgeous morning at Birchfield Farm tulip field – I think we spent about an hour taking photos and enjoying the flowers in the sunshine. As I mentioned at the start of the post, the Birchfield Farm tulip field is brand new this year – I’m hoping if they bring it back next year that they plant even more tulip bulbs in wider borders for impact / wow factor!

The tulip fields in Holland are absolutely on my bucket list but for now, Harrogate will do!
