Manchester Piccadilly Station is the largest of the four train stations servicing Manchester city centre and handles both regional and national rail services. As you can imagine, this also means it’s one of the busiest stations in Greater Manchester.
For anyone traveling from the station, finding a convenient and secure car park can be a challenge and I usually prefer to get the tram to the station or a taxi – however sometimes I’m coming home too late for public transport or just need the convenience of having my own car waiting for me at the train station. One of the issues I’ve found with parking near Manchester Piccadilly Station is that not all of the car parks offer 24/7 parking or they limit the number of hours you can park for – which is no good if you’re doing a full day in London with an early start / late finish.
However, there are a number of car parks around the station that offer safe and secure parking spaces within a short walking distance of Manchester Piccadilly Station.
Here are ten of the best car parks near Manchester Piccadilly Station:
Manchester Piccadilly Station, Fairfield Street, M1 2QF
Manchester Piccadilly Station does have it’s own short stay car park with 44 parking spaces including 3 accessible parking spaces for blue badge holders.
The car park is open 24 hours a day and there is almost always queue into and out of the car park due to the fact that this is also where the taxi rank and pick up / drop off area is for the station.
The first 10 minutes in the car park are free of charge, after than you’re going to be paying £3.00 for up to 40 minutes of parking, £5.50 for 1 hour of parking up to £35 for 3 hours of parking (and £20 for each additional hour of parking thereafter). With that in mind, the car park at Manchester Piccadilly Station isn’t really for use beyond dropping off and picking up passengers. Payment is made by card on exit.
APCOA Manchester Piccadilly Station, Piccadilly Station, Boad Street, Manchester M1 2RP
If you’re looking for long stay car parking near Manchester Piccadilly Station then the APOCA car park onsite is a convenient option with a total of 711 parking spaces. Charging points for electric vehicles are also available in this car park – this can be paid for using the APCOA Connect app.
Parking charges vary with Monday to Friday starting at £5 for up to 2 hours up to £21 for 24 hours, the weekend rate is a flat £7 per day and there’s a night rate of £6 (between 6pm and 6am) making it a great option for overnight parking.
Parking at Manchester Piccadilly Long Stay car park can be pre-booked and monthly, quarterly and annual season tickets are also available offering unlimited access during car park opening times.
NCP Store Street, Store Street, Manchester, M1 2WD
Just a two minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station, and therefore the nearest car park, the Store Street NCP car park is my personal go to car park when I’m wanting to park near the train station. There’s 406 parking bays (none of these are designated disabled spots unfortunately) and I’ve always been able to find parking when I need it – though I shall caveat that with, if I am getting the train, it’s usually fairly early in the morning so I can’t speak for how busy the car park might be later in the day.
The Store Street car park is accessible 24 hours a day with parking up to 24 hours being charged at £9.95 or just £7.95 if you pay by the app making it the cheapest parking near Manchester Piccadilly Station. If you pre-book your parking, automatic number plate recognition will be used – if you arrive before or leave after your arranged parking, you’ll need to pay for that extra parking at the machine to avoid being issued with a parking ticket.
Q-Park Piccadilly Place, Whitworth Street, Manchester, M1 3BS
Q-Park Piccadilly Place is just a two minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station offering super convenient parking with hourly rates as low as £2.50 per hour. This is a secure underground car park, monitored by CCTV. The Q-Park Piccadilly Place car park is accessible 24 hours a day and has 583 spaces including 30 disabled spaces and 10 electric charging points.
Parking is charged per hour with the hourly rate changing depending on when you arrived in the car park – the cheapest being £2.50 per hour if you start parking after midnight and before 9am. There is a maximum charge of £25 for any 24 hour period or £12 for weekends (entry must be on Saturday or Sunday for this to apply. A season ticket is also available.
You can enter and exit this car park using your contactless card so there’s no need to faff about queuing at the pay station.
Aytoun Street Car Park, Aytoun Street, M1 3DT
A five minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station is the Aytoun Street car park – this is a Euro Car Park site with 51 parking spaces. Parking is charged from £4 for two hours on weekends or £5.50 for two hours on week days up to £13.50 for 24 hours (which isn’t bad value for city centre parking these days).
If you have an electric car, you might want to consider parking somewhere else as you won’t be able to charge your vehicle here.
Major Street Car Park, Manchester M1 3ED
Major Street Car Park is currently run by SIP (though I believe was previously an NCP site). This is an uncovered car park with about 130 spaces and it should take you about six minutes to walk to Manchester Piccadilly Station from here. Parking is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week charged from £1.40 for 30 minutes up to £13 for 24 hours.
APCOA Sheffield Street, Sheffield Street, M1 2ND
Open 24 hours a day and a five minute walk from the train station is an APCOA car park on Sheffield Street. I can’t actually find any specific details about how many parking spaces or disabled spaces are available at this car park. As far as I know there’s no electrical charging points.
Parking at the APCOA car park on Sheffield Street is a very straightforward £5 for up to 8 hours and £7 for up to 24 hours making it one of the best value car parks on the list.
You can pay for your parking using the APCOA Connect app (using location code 805421) or pay by card at the machine. Pre-booked parking is also available at this site.
NCP Manchester Piccadilly Plaza, Piccadilly Plaza, New York Street, Manchester, M1 4AJ
About an eight minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station with the Manchester Piccadilly Plaza NCP with a totally of 160 parking spaces including 3 disabled bays, the Manchester Piccadilly Plaza NCP isn’t massive however you can pre-book a space.
The NCP car park Manchester Piccadilly Plaza is accessible between 6am and 11pm with pay on the day parking charged at £3.95 for 1 hour up to £23.95 for between 4 and 24 hours – this is slightly discounted if you use the NCP app.
APCOA Piccadilly Gardens, 7 Chatham Street, M1 3AY
The APCOA car park in Piccadilly Gardens is open between 5.30am and 11.30pm and is charged from £3.20 for up to 1 hour up to £25.50 for up to 24 hours. Apcoa parking can be pre-booked at this site.
The APCOA website would have you believe that Manchester Piccadilly Gardens itself is some sort of city centre haven – it is not but I suppose if you’re looking for parking near the train station, you’re not like to be hanging out in Piccadilly Gardens having a picnic (and if you were thinking about it – don’t, there’s much nicer areas of Manchester to spend your time!). It should take you about six minutes to walk up to the station from here.
APCOA China Town, 41 Faulkner Street, M1 4EE
The APCOA China Town car park is about a ten minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station so probably stretching the idea of “near” – but I guess it depends on which side of town you’re coming from and also if you’ve got plans in town once you get back.
This is just a small car park with 79 spaces with parking starting at £3.70 for up to an hour up to £25.50 for up to 24 hours. You can pre-book your parking at this car park.
What about street parking near Manchester Piccadilly Station?
The chances of finding free parking within a short walk of Manchester Piccadilly Station are slim to none – there is little on-street parking in the area and what there is is metered.
When it comes to finding a suitable car park near Manchester Piccadilly Station, hopefully I’ve given you plenty of options here ranging from convenient but more expensive car parks to budget-friendly options. Of course the car parks listed all have limited spaces so it’s worth having a back up plan in case your first choice car park is full.
