11 things you should know about my teen

When the kids were younger, I used to write fairly regular updates about their development and what they’d been up to but of course as they got older, those milestones become more spread out and the stories weren’t necessarily things to be shared anymore. That said, I do miss writing about them – and the whole point of my website in the first place was to hold memories for the kids, so with that in mind, this post has been approved by Ben (it even raised a laugh) and contributed to by Chloe . . . (in fact she has asked me to write one about her too so keep an eye out for that!)

11 things you should know about my teen

1. He cares more about comfort than style – which at least means he doesn’t cost me a fortune in clothes but does mean I occasionally wish he took a little more pride in his appearance! His new adidas hoodie ticks both boxes though – it’s comfortable but he looks pretty cool too. (And actually, when I gave him two hoodies to choose from, he did actually go look in the mirror before deciding.)

2. He can’t hold more than two instructions in his head at one time but can regurgitate more useless facts from No Such Thing as a Fish than could ever be strictly necessary.

3. He is surgically attached to his headphones – mostly listening to the afore mentioned No Such Thing as a Fish podcast or occasionally diving into Spotify but almost always sporting headphone hair!

4. He’s recently taken up playing rugby and judges his success on how filthy he is at the end of a game! (This isn’t strictly true but he definitely takes pride in coming home as muddy as possible!)

5. He has been road cycling since he was 9 and currently rocks out around 15 to 30 miles each weekend with his dad through the summer months.

6. He is surprisingly good at hanging the washing on the line and quite enjoys doing it – he’s less good at putting his laundry away after I’ve washed and ironed it though!

7. His favourite things to watch are Lucifer, Family Guy and The Mandelorian – and he likes to come and tell us all the bits he’s found funny while watching them, which drives me mad but I also kinda love it.

8. Chloe says I have to tell you he’s not as moody as you might think teenage boys are – which is fair comment!

9. He’s oddly heavy on socks – I feel like I’m constantly buying him socks, yet they always have holes in. (In part this is probably because of all the walking he does on his commute to school!)

10. He would absolutely live on chilli heatwave doritos, burgers and his Dad’s chilli con carne given half the chance and is constantly surprising me with just how much food he can consume on the daily!

11. He doesn’t like lying in… I’ve always thought he’d ‘grow into’ the whole lounging in bed phase but it just doesn’t seem to have happened as yet. He’s up at 6.30am every day for school and 7.30am on a weekend – I do think if he was allowed a TV / the xbox / his phone upstairs then that might change!
