As you know, Amy has been swimming with Puddle Ducks and then Swim Academy since shortly before her 2nd birthday. Learning to swim is most definitely a journey and one which sometimes moves faster than others.

At Amy’s last lesson, she finally nailed her 10 metres. She’d been working towards it for quite a few weeks and she knew she was close, but her teacher Claire rightly put it off until she knew that Amy would be able to do a perfect 10 metre swim!

Amy was very proud of her achievement – as was I – all the more so for the extra weeks of effort she had put in to perfect her swim. But for me, what sums up our Puddle Ducks & Swim Academy experience, is that Claire was just as chuffed as we were!

Amy was thrilled when I got an email a few days later with a special message:

Amy!!! You have at last well and truly smashed your 10m! Amy has been striving towards gaining this distance for quite some time and tonight she nailed it! She had her head in the game and knew that with only a couple more practices she was ready to demonstrate the most perfect 10m swim. Well done to you, amazing Amy!

Now that Amy has achieved her 10 metres, she’s nearing the end of Swim Academy Level 2 – as you can see below, her swimming is continuously assessed and her records updated online so I can always see what she has achieved and what she needs to be able to do next.

Swim Academy Level 2 criteria

Stage 3 will feel like a big leap as it means Amy will no longer have an adult in the water with her while she swims, just a teacher poolside. Through Stage 2, swimmers are prepared for this with occasional sections of lessons taught with an adult poolside. Every single thing that happens in a Swim Academy lesson is building on previous learning and towards a new skill, so whilst it might feel like a big change, it won’t be – it will just be another step on the swimming journey.
