Ok let’s start off by saying if I were a rich man that would be really odd – but it made a good title & now I have the song stuck in my head…
How often do you have the lottery conversation, even though you probably don’t even play it?  It’s probably one of mine and Dave’s favourite conversations for a long car journey.  What we would do if we unexpectedly came into 50k, 100k or even millions.  What would we spend it on?  Would we tell people?  Would we keep on working?  All important questions right?
First and foremost there’s the the fairly standard ‘go on a big family holiday, by a new car, pay off the mortgage’ answers isn’t there (though of course if we’re talking millions I’m pretty sure we’d just move house!) I’d love to be able to pay of my sister’s and parents’ mortgages and go on a huge shopping spree – I know Dave would love a new Panasonic HDR 4K TV and I would most certainly splash out on new designer handbag or two.

I’ve always said it’s my aim in life to be able to have a weekly blow dry – I think I’ll feel like I’ve ‘made it’ if I can ever actually justify that.  I’ve always hated washing and drying my hair and it looks so much better when someone has dried it professionally!  I’d love to be able to afford to update my wardrobe each season with help from the likes of stylist, Anna Mewes and I would most certainly get a cleaner if I had the money to spare.
I always said that if I came into loads of money I would stop teaching and become a TA instead – I’ve always loved working in school but of course now I’m a supply teacher and only teach a couple of days a week I don’t know what I’d do if I could afford to not work. Â I guess at the moment, because I don’t work full time anyway, it wouldn’t make a huge difference, I’d drop my couple of days at school to concentrate on my freelance work and to be at home for the kids. Â The big question there would be what Dave would choose to do. Â I know he wouldn’t want to be at home with us all the time, he’d go crackers. Â I wonder if perhaps he’d go to university.
When all is said and done I’m not sure I’d actually want to have millions.  I’m pretty content with my life right now and whilst I’d love to have enough money to be able to buy a house with a bigger garden, comfortably afford a regular manicure and a weekly blow dry or to be able to book holidays a few times a year without having to worry about where the money was coming from, I don’t think I’d want a fully life changing sum of money?
What would you do with an unexpected windfall?
At the moment we are trying to justify the expense of a cleaner but I doubt it would happen – It’d be £22 a week which is over a thousand pound a year! Blimey. If we had money unexpectedly we would probably pay off Dave’s car loan. Nothing frivolous! x
We looked into it before we had Chlo. I would totally do it if I could afford it. I see it as buying my own time. Even just once a month.
If we had an extra pot of ‘spare’ cash we’d take Olly over to America to go to Disneyland. We’ve priced it up and it’s so expensive, just don’t think we can afford that to be honest! We’ll stick to our plans of going to Disneyland Paris which is much more affordable, ha! x
