If you have a My Little Pony fan at home then it is unlikely to have escaped your notice that the My Little Pony: The Movie launches at cinemas on Friday 20th October, perfectly timed for a half term treat of course!
Now I don’t remember much about the My Little Ponies of the 80s – I don’t think I really watched it on TV and I definitely didn’t own any of them but I think perhaps my sister had a couple. In recent years My Little Pony has captured the hearts of a whole new generation of children with six little ponies each representing a key element of friendship – from honesty to laughter, kindness or loyalty and living in the fantastic world of Equestria.
My Little Pony: The Movie brings Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Apple Jack, Rarity and Fluttershy to the big screen for their most exciting adventure yet. When the menacing Storm King invades Canterlot with plans to steal the magic from the ponies, the very future of Equestria is at stake! Armed with nothing but determination, loyalty, and a bottomless bag of cupcakes, the Mane Six embark on an action packed heroic journey that takes them beyond the borders of Equestria for the first time ever.
The ponies face their biggest friendship challenge yet as they search for help across magical mountains, undersea worlds, and even onboard a swashbuckling airship in a thrilling race to save their home. Along the way they learn that heroes come in all shapes and sizes, that challenges are best met with friends by your side, and that there really is no force stronger than the Magic of Friendship.
To coincide with the release of this special feature length movie there is of course a new range of toys to tell you about – and you know these are going to be right at the top of plenty of Christmas lists this year!
Twilight Sparkle & Spike the Dragon Friendship Duet
This Princess Twilight Sparkle and Spike the Dragon Friendship Duet set features Twilight and Spike figures that sing together! Amy’s eyes lit up when I gave it to her and she soon discovered that if she pressed the Cutie Mark button on the Princess Twilight Sparkle figure she would sing but the best bit is that if you hold the Spike the Dragon figure next to her while she sings then he joins in too! This is a really cute little set and one which Amy has played with loads since it arrived a couple of weeks ago – so much so that the whole family can now join in with the songs they’re very catchy!!
Canterlot & Seaquestira Castle
This 2 in 1 playset features two worlds; Canterlot and the underwater kingdom of Seaquestria and comes with Queen Novo and Spike the Pufferfish figures along with over 30 accessories for you to act out tales and adventures. Although the toy says age 3+ I do think the number of small pieces makes it more appropriate for slightly older children! As Sam from North East Family Fun says, this toy does take a bit of putting together and is fairly pricey but it does have plenty of potential play value!
Pinkie Pie Seashell Lagoon Playset
Continuing with the underwater them, the Seashell Lagoon Playset features Pinkie Pie – a seapony figure with a pretty mermaid-like tail! This playset features opening and closing doors, 14 accessories and lights.
The My Magical Princess Twilight Sparkle toy is has Pegasus wings and a responsive unicorn horn! She moves her head and hoof, and can say over 90 phrases when you press the Star Button on her hoof. Chloe has a StarLily unicorn from a couple of years ago and with Princess Twilight Sparkle being of a similar size I can see the my girls are going to have lot of fun introducing these two to each other!
