I really enjoyed writing a “Right here, right now” post for January, capturing a snapshot of life in a way I used to do regularly but rarely manage any more. Lots of people messaged to say they enjoyed reading it too so here we are, doing it again – taking the time to write for the sake of writing and sharing some thoughts and moments!

March 2025 – Currently I am:
Reading: Not a lot
I started off the year reading absolutely loads (mostly children’s books) but I’m currently not reading much at all as I’ve taken on a new job that is wiping me out so early nights are cancelling out my reading time at the moment! Hopefully I’ll get chance to read a bit during the Easter holidays.
Listening to: Podcasts and The Wombats.
I tend to binge podcasts – when I find new one to listen to, I like to start from the beginning and then I’ll find myself listening to that same podcast every time I get in the car for weeks – which means I then build up a bit of a backlog of other pods that I like! I really only listen to podcasts in the car which does mean that with the new job I’ve taken on having a bit of a commute, I’m getting more chance to listen.
At the moment I’m listening to Caroline Hirons’ I’m glad we had this chat which tends to be a good mix of general life chat, skin care and listeners’ questions with each guest, I’m also listening to The Therapy Crouch and then adding a bit of The Wombats in ahead of taking Amy to see them a couple of days ago.
Laughing at: Dave mostly.
We’ve always said that we’re in trouble if we stop making each other laugh. I’m really tired at the moment – a combination of a new routine, some sleep issues and perimenopause I think – which is making life feel harder than I would like but there’s still plenty of laughter.
Swooning over: Sunglasses
I find buying glasses and sunglasses really hard – I’ve got a big round face and struggle to find frames that fit and suit but I spent all of last summer saying I needed to sort out some new prescription sunglasses and didn’t get round to it. I don’t think I’d realised how knackered my sunglasses actually were until I got them out to wear in Athens which prompted me to ask my parents for money toward new ones for my birthday.
Dave and I went up to The Trafford Centre with the girls a couple of weekends ago and I found a pair of Mulberry ones which I’m in love with but haven’t ordered yet – my only worry is that they have a really gorgeous smoked lens which definitely won’t be replicated when they put a prescription lens in but hopefully they can get it somewhere close!
Planning: Summer adventures
I’m currently trying to work out how our summer will look – which festivals we want to go to, where we can squeeze in camping trips etc. We’re not taking the kids to France this May half term so have promised them a week long camping trip somewhere in the UK this summer but I’m trying to slot that in around festivals we’ve got our eye on etc.
Eating lots of: New things!
We signed up to Gousto again at the start of the year – we find it’s a great way to get us out of a rut foodwise – introducing us to new recipes and also taking the stress out of food planning. I think the last time we cancelled it was because Dave was working away a lot so it wasn’t working for us but when he’s home, it works really well. We did a run of about two months and then paused it at the start of March because we were going away but it has added lots of new recipes into our rotation again!
Chloe’s learning to cook as part of her Bronze DofE award so at the moment she tends to do the Gousto meals with Dave and I love hearing them chatting as they are cooking together – hopefully Chloe will be able to take on cooking some of the recipes herself soon!
Feeling: Absolutely knackered
This seems to be a theme for this month’s update – I’m really struggling with my sleep at the moment, waking up at stupid times of the night, unable to get back to sleep. I got up at 4.50am one day the other week because I was just lying there worrying so figured I might as well crack on and do something useful.
My new job is taking it out of me – it’s a big change to my routines and a lot of work so that is taking a lot of getting used to. It’s long term but temporary so whilst it does feel like a bit shift for us at the moment, I know it’s not forever.
Discovering: Athens
You might have seen we headed off to Athens at the start of the month for a Jet2 City Break which was a right treat – feeling the sun on our skin in early March was definitely a luxury and has really whetted Dave’s appetite for travel, he’s itching to get away again as soon as possible but we both know that we really need to be concentrating on getting a new car sorted!
Watching at the cinema: Nothing
I planned to take myself off to watch Bridget Jones’ Diary but I haven’t got round to it – I’ve got an extra week off at Easter though so perhaps I’ll treat myself then.
Wearing: New trousers
I bought myself a pair of wide legged trousers this month – officially, according to the website, they are “Wide Leg Denim Jersey Leggings” which doesn’t make any sense to me – how on earth they can describe them as leggings I don’t know but they make a nice change from my usual daily diet of leggings and a t shirt!
Making: Video content
In my last Right Here, Right Now post, I mentioned that I was lusting over a new video camera – well I bought it and we took it on our long weekend in Athens at the start of the month. I’ve not had much chance to use it since but hopefully will be able to do some filming over the Easter holidays!
