Between the poor weather and me having to isolate thanks to a burst bubble at work, I feel like we’ve barely left the house in the last month. Every weekend seems to bring with it heavy showers and little motivation to get out of the house so we’ve made a return to hibernating and getting jobs done around the house. Ben and I absolutely blitzed his bedroom last weekend whilst Dave made him so new fitted shelves, I upcycled Chloe’s chest of drawers with some Frenchic paint and Dave has built a fence in the back garden to keep Poppy off the flowerbeds.
Of course this means that the kids have spent an awful lot of time lazing around on the sofa watching tv, playing on the Xbox or their tablets. It’s been a good year or so now since we swapped the downstairs of the house to create them their own living room rather than a playroom and it really has been a game changer – it means Dave and I no longer have to watch hours of CBBC or listen to them bickering over Minecraft. But more than that, it means that as the teenage years are rapidly approaching, they are still spending time with each other rather than holed up in their own bedrooms. We don’t have tvs in any of the rooms upstairs and plan to keep it that way, so their rooms are very much for sleeping and reading or playing. If they want to make use of their tablets and the tv then they have to be downstairs.
With us not really getting out and about much, my camera has been sat gathering dust – however, as luck would have it, May brings with it one of my favourite photo traditions. Every single year since Amy was born, I have taken a photo of the kids lying on the floor together . . . I don’t know how it started, perhaps for my siblings post – but I love that we’ve done it every year, and that they still humour me! Long may it continue!
We are all super excited for what the rest of May will bring with the changes in restrictions this coming week meaning we can really spend proper time with our friends and family for the first time in ages. Here’s hoping for some sunshine too!
